Internet is a system where computers are connected globally with each other using the standardized Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). It is a collection of networks that consists of unlimited computer worldwide linked by copper wires, fiber optic cables, wireless connections and other technologies. The Internet provides various information resources and services such as electronic mail facility,file transfer or file sharing services ,on line chatting,gaming activities,inter-linked hypertext documents and other major resources of the World Wide Web. Internet is a powerful tool which is becoming popular day by day throughout the world. Internet has changed the human life in a great way and it really helped making this world as global village.

Broadly, Internet connections are available in two modes:-

Narrow band : Its also known as Dial-Up Internet Connection. Dial-Up modems are attached internally or externally with a computer and then connected using a standard telephone cable to dial an Internet Service Provider's (ISP). It is the most basic and slowest type of Internet connection which provide 2400 bps & 56000 bps connection rates with transfer speed of 56kbps. Dial Up Internet access is basically form of Internet access via telephone lines. Dial-Up access is a transitory type connection, because either the user or the ISP terminates the connection.

Dial-up connection is still very useful for travelers. Dial-up is basically used in remote or rural areas where broadband installations are not available due to low population,demand or feasibility.

Broadband : Broadband is often called high-speed Internet, because its usually has a high rate of data transmission. It provides Internet access speed of 256kbps without any disruption. The standard broadband technologies in most areas are DSL and cable modems. Newer technologies in use include VDSL and pushing optical fiber connections. Broadband Connections has low cost as compare to Dial-up connections.

Benefits of Broadband Over Narrow band :

1. Broadband connection offers high speed Internet access over Dial upconnection.

2. Broadband is more efficient and reliable than Dial-Up connections.

3. It is more faster then Dial-up access.

4. There is no need of separate phone line like as Dial-Up connection.

5. Dial-up access is a transient in nature.

6. Broadband Connection are cost effective as compare to Dial-up connection

Broadband Internet Via Satellite

Most people look at the bottom line cost of broadband Internet when deciding the cost versus the benefits of Internet service. It's time to take a closer look. A good place to start is VoIP, also known as broadband phone service. The reasoning behind this being, the lower phone rates offset the increased of cost Internet service, essentially paying for the rise in cost in Internet access.

The cost effective possibilities are endless. Downloading movies instead of going to the video store also puts your broadband connection to work, (the legal way of course). You'll save gas, time, and it is usually just cheaper.

It has been rumored, Microsoft, in partnership with Time Warner Cable, is working on an Internet TV service called IP TV, and is due to launch in 2006. With computers having the capability of using an LCD TV screen as a monitor, or stream media to the TV, one can imagine the financial benefits of this technology, but only if you have broadband.

The examples listed are likely the most common ways to save a buck or two with broadband. Internet telephone and Internet TV are just a couple examples of new technology for broadband to come. by now it should be fairly clear to most people that faster surfing and downloads are only the very basic of benefits to broadband users.

Most dial up users won't switch to high speed Internet because they believe it's too expensive. Sure the basic subscription is more, but there are literally hundreds of ways to offset the higher cost of broadband Internet service.

In most cases, the benefits of high speed Internet far outweigh the cost. In closing, let me just say the next time you are looking for somewhere to go or something to do with your broadband connection, try looking for ways to put it to work for you, and save some money.
