Unfortunately most communities in our country need a certain sense of what community means. Everyone gets so involved in their own life and the things on their to do list that they forget about the community for which they live. Giving back to the community isn't as popular as it used to and it's quite sad. We all live in communities that could likely use our help and without that community we wouldn't have many of the programs for which we are happy to participate in.



The parades, groups, and seasonal activities that many of us participate in are only possible because of the community for which we live. It's easy to forget that, but sometimes giving just a little can mean a whole lot. There are children to mentor, tasks to be done, and talents to share. Many programs or activities are run strictly on a voluntary basis and without people to help they become extinct. Just about the time that the idea of being neighborly went away so too did the sense of community.

It used to be that people sat on their front porches, knew their neighbors, and participated and even headed up activities and groups in the community. Perhaps you want to do so but aren't sure how to get started. Consider teaching a class or facilitating an activity for which you are an expert in or know a thing or two about.

If you are a model boat builder, this hobby can easily become an activity to share with the community for which you are a part of. Inevitably there are groups in your community that cater to children, so share your talent and hobby with that group. Even considering teaching a class can be a constructive and rewarding way to give back.

You may not believe it, but it's true that every little bit counts. If you have a hobby such as model boat building for which you are a part, even holding or being a part of one program can make a difference in somebody's life. Perhaps there's somebody out there who always wanted to get involved in the hobby but didn't know how. Perhaps there's a child that needs a positive outlet for their stressful situation. Maybe it's just somebody that needs some companionship or something positive to put their time and energy-you could offer just the right outlet for any one of these people.
