Cake Decorating Icing Tips

    View:
Two of the high edible arts are cake decoration and cake design. What most people do not realise is the fun you can gain from it as a hobby.

But before you can get into cake decorating, you should also have an idea about baking. Here are some guidelines are creating the perfect cake for the perfect cake decorating experience.

Tip #1 - Use a Cake Mix if you are New to Baking

Try to produce a good foundation to work with, the best way to achieve this is to make sure that the cake you take out of the oven is evenly baked and golden brown.

To make it easier to apply your icing and decorative flourishes, make sure there are very few crumbs in your cake foundation. Also make sure your cake is level on both top and bottom.

If you have never baked a cake before and this is your very first foray into cake decoration, you should start with a box cake mix and follow the directions. This is an easy way to make sure that you get a good solid cake to work with.

Tip #2 - The Cake Decorating Process Should Never Be Rushed

If there is one cake decorating tip that you should take note of it should be never rush the cake decorating process. Ninety per cent of all cake decorating mistakes or problems are always caused by the cake decorator trying to rush through the process.

Never take your cake straight from the oven and try to decorate it. What happens is becuase the cake is not cool enough the icing will run off your base.

Always let your cake cool off at least an hour, an even better method would be to leave the cake sitting so it will set overnight before you begin icing. Some bakers even freeze their cakes before they begin icing.

Tip #3 - Keeping Your Cake Level will Make it Easier for You

You have to make sure that you have a cake that you can work with. One of the easiest ways to do this is to level and trim your baked cake. Before you get cutting and pruning wait until the cake has cooled completely, then take a serrated knife and trim off the crust and dry edges.

You can also torte the cake if you want to decorate it.Torting simply involves the process of slicing varying layers into your cake. This will hopefully establish a nice, smooth surface that makes it easy to ice the cake. You can also level off the crown of the cake center if it is lumpy or otherwise not smooth.

Tip #4 - How to Apply the Perfect First Layer of Icing

In order to get the most consistency, make sure to apply a layer of icing to the cake before you begin the real work of cake decorating. Make this first layer your crumb catcher.

The crumbs will stick to the cake using the icing method on your first layer of cake. Then be sure to let your cake set for a few hours.
Cake Decorating Icing Tips
Trying to produce a more impressive cake these days will require you to be a little more creative as there are higher standards to be met. To create that eye catching cake you will have to forget buying the tin of icing and candles and be more adventurous.

More and more people are choosing to take their cake decoration to a new level. The popularity of Cake decoration has skyrocketed recently. To take your cake decorating to a whole new level, here are some tips.

Cake Decorating Instructions Rules

Rule # 1 - Don't Panic

Maybe you may have decided to bake and decorate your own cake from scratch, you have felt inspired lately to experiment in the kitchen. How hard can it be right?

What's the harm you think I can tell a few people I'm going to be baking a cake. Maybe you even promise to share your cake at dinner or to bring your creation to the next dinner party or potluck. Don't start to worry just stay cool.

It is best not to offer your cake to other people if it is your first attempt at baking a cake. The best thing is to try out your new creation on yourself, just to be on the safe side.

If you think you would like to bake your first cake for a really special or big occasion on your first attempt then I have one word for you, don't. This just puts you under extreme pressure to create the perfect cake.

Rule # 2 - There Is No Such Thing as the Perfect Cake

When you are starting out in the world of baking and cake decorating, you may begin to wonder why your first efforts are not perfect.

When it comes down to it there is no way you can create the perfect cake. The very process of baking itself, does not allow you to end up with the perfect result

Don't worry if your cakes are a liitle off or slightly irregular even the professional chefs cannot guarantee the outcome of there baked cakes. But they all agree that is whet makes baking so interesting and challenging.

Mistakes and irregularities will happen with your baking endeavours. The most experienced pastry chefs understand that this will happen, the only difference between them and you is that they have the necessary experience to quickly mask their mistakes.

Rule # 3 - Walk Before You Can Run With Your Confectionary Creation

Keep your first cake uncomplicated, do not try to make some sort of elaborate affair. This is very important and could save you a lot of frustration.

If you try to create something too elaborate for your first attempt You will just be setting yourself up for disappointment. Keep it simple with just a few little touches of decoration.

Keep it fun and light at first, start by using ingredients that you have never thought of before. This could be something simple such as decorating with nuts and dried fruits and even edible flower petals.

Rule # 4 - Look Through Books and Magazines For Inspiration

You can pick up a lot of ideas for your first attempt at baking and cake decorating looking through books and magazines. But one thing to remember is don't let the information intimidate you into thinking this is too hard for me.

Modern day cake decorating has gone well beyond the usual butter cream variety.

If you are interested in getting more involved in baking and cake decoration there are many fine publications that can give motivation about this endeavor. They can provide you with lots of ideas and instructions about how you can decorate your cakes.
