Are you in need of a low cost health insurance plan, but don't know how to go about finding one? Don't feel bad or silly because there are a lot of people in that position. Honestly, health insurance options are not as inexpensive as they once were and prices have gotten much higher over the past 15-20 years. There are a few very simple things that you might be able to do to lower your health insurance costs. Let's take a look at three of these options.
#1. Try to get Group Health coverage through your employer - If this is available it's almost always your best option. The reason for that is because your boss is paying for part of your costs and also that there's buying power in numbers. The more people buying then the more coverage you'll get for less. Take advantage of it if it's available, because no matter what I can almost guarantee that you'll pay more by buying it privately.
#2. Consider reducing your coverage amounts - This is nerve wracking, with good reason. This means that you would actually sit down with an agent and slice and dice your policy coverage until it was more affordable. I honestly don't recommend doing this, but it is an opyion. Keep in mind that there's only so much you can reduce.
#3. Raise your deductible substantially - Other than #1, I recommend this as my second choice. You see, no matter whether you have health insurance or not you can almost always plan on spending something out of your own pocket. This can be an annual deductible, co-payment, prescriptions, etc. What you're doing by raising the deductible is basically saying to yourself "I can handle the basic doctor visits and prescriptions in exchange for having a policy and being covered for major emergencies". That's not a bad trade off. Also, your premiums will be much lower. This will make those out of pocket costs more affordable.
Bottom line - If you're in need of a low cost health insurance plan then grab a few free health insurance quotes, do some comparisons of the coverage provided and prepare to get the ball rolling by speaking to an agent. Don't put it off any longer!
California Low Cost Health Insurance
It has been said that wealth is worthless if you do not have your health, but it is getting more and more difficult to acquire wealth due to the skyrocketing costs of health insurance. In recent years the cost of health insurance has increased at a rate that is faster than the increases in wages, the stock market, inflation, and nearly any other index you can name.
Many people feel trapped by the high cost of health insurance because they can not afford it, but due to the high cost of medical care they can not afford to live without it. So it should come as no surprise that you are not the only one who is searching the market for low cost health insurance.
Finding low cost health insurance is not nearly as simple as a typical bargain hunting venture. Your ability to qualify for various low cost plans can be dependent on your age, gender, family situation, income, and even the state in which you live.
Many states offer free or low cost health insurance not only for uninsured children, but for adults whose family size and income meet certain criteria. You can find out if you qualify by checking with the health authorities of your respective state. However, the qualifications for free, state sponsored plans, are often narrow and chances are you are among the millions of people who must seek private alternative low cost health insurance providers.
It almost sounds cliche, but a good place to begin your search for low cost health insurance is on the Internet. Not only can you access information directly from health insurance providers, there are websites dedicated to helping people find the best health insurance deals.
By entering your personal information, including some medical history, these sites will typically do the shopping for you and provide you with insurance quotes and coverage details from the available qualified plans. The quotes you receive will be from multiple sources, so you can compare prices, coverage, copays, and every other element of the individual low cost health insurance plans before you make a decision on the one that is best for you.
Caveat Emptor: "let the buyer beware" is an axiom that holds true whenever you are in the market for a new purchase or service, and it certainly holds true when you are shopping for low cost health insurance. Your health can be unpredictable, and it is possible to be afflicted with a condition on one day that you had never heard of only the day before.
A low cost health insurance provider may appear to offer comprehensive and complete coverage in their prospectus, but in practice their coverage may come up short when your health makes an unexpected turn, especially if you are afflicted with a rare or unforeseeable condition. Again, the Internet can be a great ally in your search for a plan that will best serve your needs.
There exists online many websites that are dedicated to helping real people sift through the low cost health insurance quandary. These websites often offer online "forums" where people post the positive and negative aspects of their real life experiences with low cost heath insurance providers. These online resources can help you find which companies stand by their customers when they are in need, and which ones are likely to leave you "holding the bag" when times are tough.
The current state of health insurance is extremely difficult to understand and afford. Healthcare has been at the forefront of public consciousness and political talking points for over a decade, and with each passing year the situation becomes more critical. When you put the power of the Internet on your side, you can use the knowledge of dedicated companies and individuals who can help you sort through the details and find a low cost health insurance plan that will work for you and your family.
