So, here are some observations of each type's character traits that affect career choice together with some pieces of advice for possible directions. Corresponding actual careers are also included with their personality types.
Psychologists have a long list of personalities. We will only analyze two types of personalities here for discussion, that is, the duty fulfillers and the guardians.
The Duty Fulfillers
This personality type gives importance to security, tradition, and peaceful living. They can work on long and difficult to attain duties. A duty fulfiller will see it right to the end no matter how difficult a process is, even if the others have given up. They do not take failure lightly. They are also observed to be loyal, stable, faithful, practical and down-to-earth.
They are also family-oriented and do not delve on things they consider unimportant. They are not fond of abstract theory, unless they realize the practical significance. They are born natural leaders. Most of them prefer to work alone but work effectively in teams when needed.
They are also observant. They take in facts through their senses and recall them internally. They have stored ideas that they rely on to understand problems experienced in their lives. They also have respect for details and concrete information.
Duty fulfillers can also formulate decisions objectively, and execute logic and rational thinking. They are quite adamant to change unless they deem it very relevant and necessary. They also have great opinions about the way things should be done.
These people appreciate structure and order. They have very high standards for their own acts and for others. They are not naturally inclined with other people's emotions. They can finish almost anything if they set their minds to it. And above all, they are community minded or good citizens.
The duty fulfillers have one character trait that places them at a specific advantage in regard to career success. They can do anything that they have chosen to do.
A duty fulfiller will do his best in a given career using their best organizational skills and forces of concentration to form order and structure. They sit well in the management and executive levels of the real business environment.
The duty fulfillers can also be accountants and financial officers, business executives, administrators and managers, medical doctors or dentists, judges, police and detectives, lawyers, military leaders, computer programmers, systems analysts, and computer specialists.
The Guardians
The guardians are natural leaders also. They want to be in charge. They greatly value tradition and safety. They are loyal, dependable and hardworking, athletic and decent. They also have a good set of standards and beliefs.
They are not known to be patient with incompetence or inefficiency but they are great in organizational abilities. These people are also very thorough and admire structure and order. They are also able to follow projects to completion. They are straightforward, honest and very eager to achieve their duties.
The guardians feel like they are shepherds who have to take care of their flocks. And they take care of them diligently and efficiently. They rule by example so that their constituents will follow. They value rules, ethics and morality.
People with this personality will become good and effective teachers, military leaders, police or detective, judges, business administrators and managers, financial officers and sales representatives.
Careers For Personality Types
I am the world. The world must obey me. I can never be wrong. I know what is to be done and how. All of you must follow what I say without any protest, because I tolerate no dissent. I am the storehouse of all the knowledge and what I do not know is not worth knowing. I am the most intelligent person going around and though I don't show it clearly, I know that all of you are much lower than me in intelligence. I am the boss.
Please be with me. I do not know how to face the world. I will do what you say, but please protect me from this world. I don't know much and please guide me at every step. I need you. Please help me at all the times.
These are two ends of extreme personalities. The first one - aggressive and the second one -passive. Psychology is as complex as the human mind and as the time passes more discoveries and more theories get propounded. But I am not talking about clinical psychology. I am talking about what we observe in our everyday life and what it teaches us.
As you read the descriptions above, you will agree that both the types are not healthy. The healthy personality has respect for its strengths and acknowledges its weaknesses without feeling bad about them. The healthy personality respects others for their strengths and does not show any disdain for their weaknesses. He/she knows that all of us are imperfect in some way. The healthy personality does not try to overwhelm others with knowledge, but helps with guidance. The healthy type is equally not overwhelmed by more dominant people but acknowledges that they are good in some areas and respects them for that. But does not behave submissively.
In this world, none of us is perfect. We all should be ready to learn new things without feeling inferior. All right, I do not know how to play the piano. Please teach me. If I find out that I will learn it and like playing I will continue learning, otherwise I will try my hand at something else. For a healthy person, the qualities do not make a person inferior or superior. He/she treats all as human beings first and says that some one is good or not very good at doing something. If a healthy personality has to express his/her opinion about someone's shortcoming, it will not be - that person is a fool, but that person has certain deficiencies but the deficiencies can be taken care of by proper learning.
