After chasing a spot on the Price is Right, comedienne Rosie O'Donnell has attracted the attention of another television show entitled Friday Night Lights. The former View co-host is currently in the process of negotiating with the show's executives as to if she is ready to take on a part that they believe is meant for her.
Michael Ausiello of TVGuide recently reported that O'Donnell is to be signed for Friday Night Light's upcoming second season. Jason Katims, the executive producer for the show, has spoken with Ausiello and mentioned that the Emmy-Award winning talk show host was also enthusiastic with the offer.
"Usually we don't do any stunt casting, but we have a character coming up- six or seven episodes into the new season- of a female soccer coach who is really angry about all of the school's resources going to football. It's a really funny character and I think she'd be perfect for it," Katims explained.
"There's a scene where she comes in to see Coach Taylor (Kyle Chandler) and slams a dead soccer ball on his desk and basically says, 'You're the guy who gets everything!' It's a really fun scene, and it's the one time I'm thinking of stunt casting," he added.
In the coming weeks, the Friday Night Lights executive plans to formally approach Rosie O'Donnell for the role, and he said he will comply with any character changes that O'Donnell might request for.
"It would be one episode, but the way we write things, we stay very open to abrupt things," Katims said. "So if she comes out, loves doing it, and wants to do more, she could do it. But initially, it would be just one scene, and that would be the way to get her. Knowing that she could come [out to the show's Austin, Texas, set], hang out, have a scene with Kyle Chandler and then be done could be very appealing to her."
Cindi Berger, representative for O'Donnell, has also confirmed the comedienne's interest in the offer, however, she said that there are no definite plans yet.
Friday Night Lights' second season is set to premiere on Friday. October 5, at 9/8c.
Comparison Of Two Companies I also find it interesting how different techniques achieve similar results. No doubt about it though that building anchored links is the quickest way to get there
