Cat Behaviors And What They Mean

    View:
Adopting a cat or kitten is a good solution if you are looking for a fairly laid-back animal to call your friend. Cats are independent, smart, inexpensive and require very little maintenance, making them some of the best pets to own. Bad cat behaviors may require corrective training, but cats are usually smart enough to figure things out for themselves.

Cat owners may need to seek help for cat behaviors such as; spraying on furniture, clawing and pouncing. A cat may be deliberately aggressive or just may not know any better. Some cats attempting to play may act unintentionally rough. Further problems can be avoided if these cat behaviors are looked into and corrected when possible.

Cats that have been mistreated, abused, or unsocialized (had extended contact with loving humans), they may be aggressive or dangerous toward people. In spite of the fact that cats are independent, they need a loving environment in order to learn to trust and respond with affection and gentleness. If you own or are considering adopting a cat, the development of trust between you and your pet is the first order of business.

If you give you cat the time and space to explore on its own, it will soon understand that you can be trusted. You need to show your cat a lot of care and patience. Sometimes this positive input can help to get rid of unwanted cat behaviors, such as aggression. All cats need space, especially kittens, which like lots of room to play. Adult cats also like to have a large area as if they feel trapped they may become aggressive.

A cat vet can help you determine if medical problems are the reason that your cat is behaving oddly at home. Once you discover the root of the problem, you can begin to treat it. Not all cats have the same instincts or personality. Some are just fundamentally not active, while other are always jumpy and filled with energy. So a strategy to correct one cat's behavior may be completely ineffective for another cat. To determine what will work for your cat, make sure to bring your cat to a cat vet so that a workable plan can be drawn up.

Please keep in mind that most difficulties are not irreparable. You may become frustrated with your animal, but should not abandon or shut them out simply because desired changes are not happening immediately. Being a companion to a cat, as with anything involving people and an animal that has its own likes and dislikes, means adjustment.
Cat Behaviors And What They Mean
If you've just adopted your first cat or kitten, you may find your pet's behavior puzzling at times. Maybe you've never had a cat before, or maybe you've always had dogs. In either case, it is time to learn a little bit about your new kitty's body language, so that you can understand cat behaviors and better communicate with him or her.

Firstly, take a look at your cat's tail. A cat's tail often displays what mood they are in. If their tail is relaxed and unmoving, then your cat is content, or sleepy. If your cat's tail is stiff and pointing straight up in the air, then they are happy and want to spend some time with you. The key to cat psychology is the tail.

One way to find out if your cat is getting irritable is to watch his or her tail. The tail either" whaps" back and forth or it starts twitching. Both, the speed at which it twitches as well as the length of the tail that twitches are indications to look for. Quicker the twitching, greater the irritability. This is a warning to leave the cat alone and if you ignore it, you will be subjected to scratching or biting.

Now let's examine the general stance of your cat. When your cat is curled up in a ball with a paw over their face, they are sleeping soundly and best left alone. But when you cat is more relaxed and stretched across the floor it could be signaling time to play. Some cat problems can come from not being sensitive to these cues the cat is giving through their body posture about when to play and when to rest.

Another example of cat behaviors is that they flip over on their backs when interested in playing or interacting. But watch out, because their bellies are highly sensitive, and they may scratch if you pet them there. If they do flip over, you might have more luck playing with them with a toy - keeping hands away. Remember that they can get very excited in this position and may lash out by accident.

It's important to observe the tail and the way your baby kitten stands while you are stroking and coddling it. Unlike dogs that always want your love and affection, cats are more finicky. They change their minds about wanting your attention without warning. Often they signal it to you first using their tail and their posture. Keep in mind that cats are individuals with their own style and personality, and sometimes they just need to be left alone.
