The pet food industry is a multi Billion industry. Pet food manufacturers are very much interested in having YOU as their customer and are willing to actually spend some money



acquiring you as a loyal customer.

Loyal customers not only purchase on an ongoing basis, but most homes with pets are multi pet homes. You are a long term stream of revenue.

While it is a great idea to cut our cost whenever we can, care should also be taken that we do not cut quality along with the price.

The markup for pet food is huge. Especially the food companies that use an excess of cheap fillers.

The pet food manufacturers pull out their arsenal in trying to gain you as a customer.

Their labels are beautiful with wheat fields and fresh crunchy vegetables…

Never mind that the so-called "wholesome grains" are not at all wholesome to a dog or cat. Grains are a major source for allergies, diabetes and irritable bowel syndrome.

But, it sure sounds nice. The word "wholesome" makes you feel good, no?

Then you read the label (since you are a good cat or do mum) and you are pleased to see that some form of animal protein source is listed as ingredient number one.

Frequently the source of the animal protein is not disclosed, meaning it can be just about anything. The spillage of the slaughter house floor, tumors, animals that arrived to the slaughter house already dead, road kill, hoofs, beaks and too many other "sources" anyone would not want to feed to their best friend. Wholesome……hm……

Then, for those with a discerning eye, corn shows up in it's constituents several times in the top ingredients.

This is a deliberate attempt of the pet food manufacturer to make it seem as if there is a lot less corn in the food. But adding the constituents of corn together, you realize that corn is in fact the number one ingredient on the list.

There is a lot to learn while shopping for food for your pet. While a home made diet is the absolute best choice, and neither hard to do or that expensive after doing the necessary research, a homemade diet may not be possible for everyone.

If you use commercial food, and you are looking for coupons, look for food that contain no corn, wheat or soy. They are far superior to those that do, and may not be more expensive.

Excluding food that contains corn, wheat or soy will make a big difference in your pets long term health.

Today there are companies producing canned and dry food without the dreaded grains.
