Causes Of Bad Breath In Adults

    View:
Halitosis, or bad breath is almost inevitable to a degree in everyones life time. However, not everyone is aware that they suffer from this noticeably unpleasent problem! But it would be extremely rare, and if not impossible to escape, without ever having an episode of bad breath. One issue that many people may worry about is having bad breath and friends and acquaintances have not had the guts to tell them about it. Therefore, it is common to wonder what causes bad breath, even if no one has mentioned the subject. It is relatively easy to keep the matter under control with little understanding of what causes bad breath.

Things That Can Cause Bad Breath

Garlic and onions are well known for making breath stinky. It doesn't matter how many times you brush your teeth, or suck on mints, the smell takes forever to go away! The reason for this is because after the garlic or onions are ingested, the odor causing agents are circulated through the blood stream. So when a person breaths the air is filtered through the garlic smelling blood thus making their breath smell for hours! So, dispite some of the wonderful flavors of both of these dragon-breath agents, most everyone knows to stay clear of them several hours before going into the public.

Smelly foods can not only flow through the blood, but if left in the mouth after eating, they can cause odor causing bacteria to grow. If the food particles that can be left on the teeth after meals is not brushed clean, the food rots causing bad breath.

Bad breath may also be persistent (chronic bad breath), which is a more serious condition. This can affect some 25% of the population in varying degrees. This condition is usually caused by the one's metabolic activity, or how your body breaks down certain types of oral bacteria. Checking with your doctor is the best way to find a solution to this condition.

Gum and mouth diseases can also cause terrible bad breath. A dentist would be able to find the best solution to those issues.

Simple Solutions to Help Cure the Causes of Bad Breath?

Halitosis can be a very serious condition and it is strongly suggested that if you continue to have bad breath, that you check with a doctor and/or a dentist. Regular dental check-ups and cleanings can catch problems early, and doctors can test the blood for underlying reasons inside the body. However, there are several things that can be done while waiting for the doctors appointment to come! Simple yet effective steps.

Good habits should be adequate to treat halitosis if one is in a normal state of health. Tobacco smells at least as much as food with pungent aromas, so staying away from all these influences pays off handsomely in terms of clean and fresh breath. Regular brushing and flossing may sound like advice for children, but it is surprising how many adults need regular reminders!
Causes Of Bad Breath In Adults
Bad breath is mainly bothersome, as people rarely know they have it unless they are told of it. Yet it can spoil one's social and even economic life. And mouthwashes are not always helpful. When bacteria stagnate, or remain in one place, they get multiplied and give off toxins and odors.

Smoking is also one of the main reasons of bad breath, along with certain illnesses such as nasal and stomach conditions. Bits of food, that gets wedged between the teeth and on the tongue rots and sometimes causes an unpleasant smell. So correct and regular brushing is very significant to keep your breath smelling fresh.

The bacteria on the teeth and gums also form the basis of the gum disease and dental decay. If one goes to the dentist regularly this only does not help to prevent bad breath but one should also let the dentist look for and treat these problems.

Other causes of the very bad breath

Bad breath can also be caused by several medical problems. Dry mouth is a situation that affects the flow of saliva. This causes bacteria to make up in the mouth and this leads to bad breath.

Dry mouth may be caused by a little medicine, salivary gland problems or by continually breathing through the mouth instead of the nose. Older people may fabricate less saliva, causing further problems. If one suffers from dry mouth, the dentist may be able to recommend or prescribe an artificial saliva product. Or the dentist may be able to recommend other ways of dealing with the problem.

Medical conditions that is the cause of bad breath

Apart from above mentioned causes there are other medical conditions also that cause bad breath include infections in the throat, nose or lungs, sinusitis, bronchitis, diabetes, or liver or kidney problems. Tobacco also can form one of the reasons of its own form of bad breath.

The only solution left in this case is to stop smoking. This not only hampers your body as well as making your breath smell, smoking causes staining, causes loss of taste and irritates the gums. People who smoke are more prone to suffer from gum disease and also have a greater risk of developing cancer of the mouth, lung cancer and heart disease. One should ask and go for the check to the dentist, pharmacist or practice nurse for help in quitting.
