Leading manufacturers of mobile phone handsets namely LG, Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Motorola are continuously striving to make those handsets, which can soothe the requirements of mobile phone users
GSM (Global System Mobile) and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) network technologies are the two technologies set up by mobile service providers across the world.
?CDMA: Both data and voice are separated from signals using codes and then transmitted using a wide frequency range. Because of this, there are more space left for data transfer (this was one of the reasons why CDMA is the preferred technology for the 3G generation, which is broadband access and the use of big multimedia messages). It's global coverage is much smaller than GSM. The growth rate of CDMA subscribers is 25% as compared to 35% for GSM.
?GSM: GSM uses a variation of time division multiple access (TDMA) and is the most widely used of the three digital wireless telephone technologies -TDMA, GSM, and CDMA. It was developed in Europe and allows for easy international roaming. The key feature of GSM, the SIM card allows the subscriber information to be stored on a small, removable card, rather than on the phone. GSM is the dominant technology used around the globe and is available in more than 100 countries. GSM allows for eight simultaneous calls on the same radio frequency and uses ?narrowband? TDMA, the technology that enables digital transmissions between a mobile phone and a base station. The advantage of GSM is that it provides a high level of security, globally accepted technology standard and superior sound quality. GSM is the most used mobile phone technology in the world, with 73% of the worldwide market. It has a very strong presence in Asia and Europe.
Most CDMA companies are going to EVDO (Evolution Data Optimized) which is a CDMA2000 technology, while many GSM providers are moving to UMTS (Universal Mobile Communication System) also sometimes called W-CDMA, which interestingly enough has no relation with the CDMA technology. Overall, for the strictly domestic business user, CDMA-based handhelds provide more access in more places, as well as faster data calls and greater ease of transition to new handsets. GSM phones will better provide hybrid voice and data use. In the new future cdma and gsm networks will have better and greater coverage.
