Ceiling Fan Installation Instructions

    View:
When planning install a ceiling fan, it's a good idea to know the important steps of the process. First and foremost is safety. First of all, the unit should be anchored securely to a junction box (electrical box) that can hold the weight of the fan and the motion as well when the fan is operating at its highest speed. With a weight of 30 pounds or more, securing a ceiling fan properly is crucial. Never try to replace an overhead light with just the ceiling fan, and no junction box. If there are any doubts about installation, it is best to call an electrician for help. Be sure the ceiling fan is at a sufficient height to not accidentally come in contact with anyone's head or arms. An adult should be able to extend his or her arms upward without touching the fan or blades. It is common for a ceiling fan to be about 7 feet from the floor, but for taller people this may be too low. With this in mind, also be careful to not let any objects come in contact with blades when in motion.

To make use of your fan at its optimum performance, you need to understand how it works. Ceiling fans are used primarily in the summer; so, people assume that is the only time they are used. To use your ceiling fan to its fullest capacity, use it during the winter months as well. For cooling, you should have the blades set so that they blow the air downwards. To warm the room, reverse the direction of the blades to bring the air toward the ceiling, causing a mixture of the cool and warm air. This causes the cooler air in the room to mingle with the warmer air towards the ceiling, making the warm air to blow down thus helping to heat your space.

With this knowledge, you should be able to install the ceiling fan. All ceiling kit fans come with specific instructions as well, so be sure to study them thoroughly.
Ceiling Fan Installation Instructions
A nice improvement to any home is the installation of a ceiling fan. Installing a ceiling fan is a good idea because it can add to the look of a room while also providing cool air in the summer and helping to circulate warm air in the winter. It is also an easy project because most kits come with very straightforward and easy to follow instructions.

Before Buying

Before you even buy a ceiling fan, make things easier on yourself by making sure to choose the right one. You have to look at the different options. Ceiling fans are not all the same. They come with different blade sizes, different lighting or no lighting, in different colors and with a variety of options. Make sure you know what type of fan you want and choose accordingly. Also go through the tools you have on hand so you know what you will need to buy when you go shopping.

Supplies

When you go shopping you will need to buy the ceiling fan kit, but you will also need some other supplies. You will need a screwdriver, wire strippers, a circuit tester, pliers, and a ladder. You may need a ceiling box, hammer, and drywall saw. Buy anything you need because you could end up quite frustrated to find out half way through the installation that you need a tool.

Getting Started

Once you get home you should unpack the kit and make sure all the parts are there and that nothing is missing. It can help to lay out the pieces in the order you will use them. It makes the process much smoother. Next turn off the electricity and check to ensure it is off using a circuit tester. At this point you should be able to follow the instructions that came with the kit. You will mount the box, assemble the fan, hang the fan, wire the fan, install the controls and you are done.

Once you have installed the fan you will want to trouble shoot any problems. You should turn the electricity back on and make sure everything runs and works. If there are wobbles you may need to tighten screws or adjust the blades to fix it. You should first make sure none are bent or misshapen. You can then try adding weights to balance them out. Once you work out the wobbles then you are good to go.
