To the modern motorist a cherished number plate is the ultimate car accessory and one of the best ways to make a car stand out on the road. As each one is unique their price once sold can rise dramatically making them a great investment to many proud owners.
Cherished number plates are becoming increasingly popular with businesses to use as eye catching advertising on the move. One of the most well known companies who do this is Pimlico Plumbers based in London. Pimlico have a growing collection of valuable and memorable cherished number plates relating to their industry that act as a great publicity tool. Pimlico own the cherished registrations BOG 1, W4 TER and DRA 1N amongst many other classic number plates.
The promotional value of business number plates is becoming more recognised, aiding brand awareness and instilling confidence and pride amongst staff and customers. Pimlico have openly announced they owe a lot of their success to their collection of cherished number plates and their customers often referred to the staff by the vans that they drive.
Other companies buy entire series of number plates to assign to company cars and lorries. Buying a complete series for your company can unify your fleet vehicles and make administrative duties much easier. Certain number plate dealers specialise in supplying and assigning bulk orders of cherished number plates to companies and offer good discounts for bulk purchases.
Cherished number plates are a strong asset for any company with their value rising year on year. Owing a collection of plates such as Pimlico or a complete series such as E1-E20 MTE will add value to the investment and if bought as advertising the purchase can be tax deductible.
Finding and buying cherished number plates for your business is easy with online number plate dealers providing search facilities to millions of number plates. For inspirations you can search your company initials or name or the popular BOSS series using the new style BO55 range of private number plates. BOS 55Y and BOS 55S were both sold at the DVLA auction, fetching over two thousand pounds each.

Cherished Car Number Plates
Premier Motor Auctions held the second auction of 2008 on behalf of the Sale of Marks Group, DVLA Swansea on Wednesday the 16th, ,Thursday 17th and Friday the 18th of April at The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, South Wales . The auction comprised 1500 previously un-issued registration numbers which the DVLA are allowed to sell. This sale had a distinctly Welsh theme to it with many names and words included in the registrations. This sale raised ?3678850 in bids but with vat and transfer fees the net contribution to the treasury will be over ?4500000 , this figure is down on the previous auction held in February which achieved a bid total of ?4042100 but follows a pattern of the first and last auctions of the year being the most succesful with the ones held in the middle of the year slightly less profitable.
Top achieving number which also reflected the welsh theme of the auction was WEL 5H which brought a bid of ?27200 with the more conventional 1 HEL in second place at ?22000. The number one plates continued their popularity with 1 SLW bring ?18000 and 1 LCH selling at ?15500.Some of the Welsh themed number sold were C7 MRU at ?5000 and DRA 90N at ?4800. Welsh names were represented by MEG 44N at ?4800, OWE 1N at ?6500, HUG 1H at ?7000, DYL 9N at ?3100 and CER 7S at ?4200. Welsh themed numbers which did not sell were W8 LES with a reserve of ?1600 and W31 LES with a reserve of ?900. Bargains included 60 LWX at ?450, and 5 GFX at ?950. Novelty registrations included 4 BED at ?2600 and 61 GGS ( Giggs ) at ?2100.
There were much fewer new style registration numbers included in this auction with MA57 ERS ( Masters) at ?10000 being the most notable one. There were 128 unsold numbers including many conventional two numbers + two letters and one number + three letter combinations, this figure was well up on the last sale which had 90 unsold numbers and could well account for the lower total for sales amounts
Anyone using the above figures should be aware that on top of these bid prices needs to be added auctioneers commission, d.o.t. transfer fee and value added tax .A rough estimate of how this inflates the bid price is to add 25%.
Next auction is scheduled for 4th, 5th and 6th June 2008 at Wychwood Park,Weston Crewe, Cheshire. You can bid by phone ,internet or in person but you need to register for bidding in advance. You can view the list of registration numbers that will be available at the DVLA website. A free catalogue is available to down load in Adobe Acrobat PDF format and there is also a search function whereby you can search all the registration numbers ever auctioned by DVLA ot gauge how much similar numbers have fetched, this is valuable help for you to prepare the maximum amount you are prepared to bid. Never
Attend an auction without setting yourself a maximum amount you are prepared to pay, it is very easy to be carried away in the excitement generated on the day.
