Network marketing has played a prominent role in business for several decades. Now, with the recent rise of the internet, the presence of network marketing business opportunities has increased dramatically. So with this tremendous variety of potential businesses to select from, what are a few of the things the home business entrepreneur should consider when making his decision?
Notwithstanding the marketing claims of guaranteed instant success, you are going to have to work diligently in any business endeavor in order to reach your desired results. Network marketing is no exception. Prior to joining any business opportunity ask yourself these questions: Can I commit the time necessary to make this business opportunity succeed? Do I really believe in the products I'll be selling? Without the commitment on your part, you are unlikely to be successful.
Of course you should carefully examine the compensation structure being offered. In order to be able to build a nice residual income, you should be reasonably satisfied that you will be able to create a decent sized downline beneath you. If the company's network marketing structure has been around for many years, that may be good or bad. Good, as it shows a stable organization, but it could also be bad, for it might be an indication that the opportunity element of the business may be saturated . You should attempt to contact existing operators and see how they are making out.
You should do some research about the products. Is there a good sized market for them? Are they competitively priced? Are existing customers for the products happy with them? If the products are not of good quality, well-priced and sought after, no amount of effort on your part is likely to prove successful. Also, do some research about the company itself. Try to find out how many years they have been operating. Are they just getting started in business or do they have a good track history of success?
A crucial issue that is often left unaddressed in the excitement of signing up for a new business opportunity is whether the company will give you, on an ongoing basis, the sales materials and brochures to help you in selling their products. You also need to find out before signing what training program they will be providing to you, and whether you will have someone to go to should any questions arise.
Carefully review the contract they will be asking you to sign. Be very sure of the financial commitments you'll be making. Are there monthly payments required? Monthly minimum purchases of products? If you are not happy, can you terminate the contract without any penalty?
With a small amount of luck you should be able to find a network marketing opportunity that meets all of the requirements set out above. Keep focused on the most important points. Search for a company that excites you and whose products have a large base of potential customers; where the company will deliver the sales materials and training you need; which has a good compensation structure; that provides you a reasonable chance to create your own downline; and where your financial obligations can be met without undue strain.
