Chronic Myofascial Pain Treatment

    View:
Anyone living with chronic pain knows just how debilitating this type of condition is. There is seemingly no relief to this situation; it's not as if you can simply go back to bed or curl up in your favorite chair and be free of your pain. Chronic pain can also eventually cause depression, anxiety, and many other severe emotional problems because of the interference it creates in one's life. So if you're trying to deal with this, whether on your own or under a doctor's care, we can give you some tips for chronic pain treatment that can help. Of course, never let this information take the place of your doctor's recommendations or advice. He or she may have already given you many tips for chronic pain treatment, and these should all work in harmony with one another.

First of all, you need to understand the condition or disease you have that is causing you this pain. No tips for chronic pain treatment are going to work if you don't understand your arthritis or poor circulation or broken back or whatever it is that is causing you pain. As a matter of fact, without this proper understanding and knowledge you may actually be making things worse. So while it may be a little dry and boring, do some reading or ask your doctor to explain just what this condition or disease actually does to your body and why it causes pain in the first place.

Also, another important tip for chronic pain treatment is to understand the limitations you may have because of this disease, and because of your pain itself. It's so easy to get caught in the trap of yearning for the days when you were pain free and could walk or run with ease. But none of these tips for chronic pain treatment are going to be effective if you push your body past its limits or ignore the signals that it's sending to you - which is exactly what pain is, a signal that something is wrong. So if it's your knees or your back that are in constant pain, don't push them past what they can do. Don't try to lift or bend or run like you once did. Allow your body its new limitations.

Some other important tips for chronic pain treatment are to not only take whatever medications your doctor is prescribing, but to remember home remedies as well. This doesn't necessarily mean things such as homeopathic treatments, but simple things such as hot baths and heating pads. If you need to stay in bed with your feet up, then do it. If a massage helps, then schedule one regularly. Never be embarrassed to use these simple methods of making your body feel better when it's dealing with something as serious as constant pain. These are some of the most important tips for chronic pain treatment there are.
Chronic Myofascial Pain Treatment

Physician has to remember that in elderly population pain intensity and drugs pharmacokinetics usually diminished as the patient ages. Drug clearance and drug half-life is altering with renal excreted medications and hepatic metabolized medications. Sensitivity of the drugs to central nervous system is also shifting when the patient aged.

Chronic pain is tremendously affecting elderly people. It is changing their physical activities; they ability to perform activities of daily leaving; the work and their recreation activities. It is also increasing their psychological morbidity such as depression, anxiety, anger, and loss of self-esteem. Social and societal consequences transform accordingly affecting marital/family reactions; intimacy/sexual activities; increase social isolation; health care cost; disability and lost workdays.

Neuropathic pain treatment in elderly has several goals such as improving physical functioning; reducing psychological distress, and improves overall quality of life. The first-line pharmacological treatment recommendations for neuropathic pain in elderly would be Gabapentin, Lidocaine patch, Tramadol, Antidepressant and Opioid Analgesics. Second line treatment of chronic pain in elderly patients would be Spinal Cord Stimulator that will allow decreasing all oral medications including opioids. The overall effect would be dramatic changes of the quality of life with an improvement of the physical activities and decreasing all medications' side affect. The third line of treatment of the chronic pain in elderly population would be an implantation of the intrathecal pump. Intrathecal pump will deliver very small dose of medications into spinal canal and this allows improving the efficacy of these medications and eliminating or decreasing general side effects.
