Class A Office Space

    View:
Many people find themselves working in a dreary office, with very little to inspire and stimulate. As office space becomes smaller for the regular working person, it seems as though working conditions are less pleasant, almost unbearable at times. This is especially true of cubicle environments. However, there are many things that can be done to help beautify and enhance the office space.

A plant, or if there is room for more than one, plants, can help spruce up the office space. Studies have been done that support evidence that plants create a restorative atmosphere. Work environments decorated with plants are pleasant and provide a more positive atmosphere. The plant need not be large or brightly colored. A simple green plant, or small flowering plant, can make the office space infinitely more bearable. Plus, plants use carbon dioxide and create oxygen as a by-product. A work environment with plants has air that is less stuffy.

Office space can also be enhanced when the desk is set up so that the person can see an opening, be it the door outside, into a hallway, or the opening of a cubicle. According to practices of Feng Shui, facing the entrance to a space (in this case the office space) allows for empowerment. A mirror, placed to reflect the entrance can have almost the same effect. If Feng Shui isn't your thing, facing the entrance gives a better feeling of expanse. Psychologically, it lessens feeling of being trapped or closed in. The perception of more space is a good way to enhance your office space.

Finally, a picture, even a small one, of a favorite landscape or work of art can bring an element of beauty and refreshment into the office space. While few people actually enjoy being at work, there are ways to make the office space more appealing and less oppressive.
Class A Office Space
Your office should be a warm and inviting space that makes you want to go there every day. Surround yourself with items that invigorate you and allow you to be creative. Your first concern should be finding office furniture that is beautiful, as well as functional. You want to love the space and you want it to make you happy when you are working. Use the largest wall for a long, uninterrupted expanse of workspace. This will allow you to spread out. Make sure that you have adequate temporary storage space so that you can put your work away when you have guests or you are through for the day.

You should purchase a desk that works for the specific tasks you perform there; room for a computer and screen, telephone and other office supplies. If your work involves large blueprints or drawing, find an adjustable drafting table that can be folded out of the way when not in use. Since working usually requires some sort of research, having your books, manuals and other items handy is a must. Install bookshelves for frequently used items and closed storage for items you use less often. Incorporate pretty baskets, boxes and containers to hold all the miscellany of your work life. If you need to see your work to be inspired, install an erasable board, pegboard, corkboard or bulletin board along with the appropriate supplies to use them. Paint the corkboard; cover the corkboard or bulletin boards in material or paper that coordinates with your office.

Remember to include guest chairs and maybe a conference table and chairs for use when you have meetings. If you use comfy chairs, guests may be inclined to stay, so determine what atmosphere you want to convey. Using a conference table and chairs indicates that you are ready for business, whereas overstuffed chairs or a sofa make give the impression you want to visit as well as conduct a little business. You can find beautiful and sturdy office furniture almost anywhere, so always be on the lookout for a good deal.

Arranging your office is another important consideration. If you have a window, do you face the view or will it interfere with your thinking process? If you believe in Feng Shui, then arrange your office so that the chi is right for you. Allow enough room to move around the furniture, but don't place regularly used items too far away or you will constantly be getting up and down, which might interfere with your thinking process. Organization is the key to an efficient work space. Whether you need piles around you or you need everything in its place and neatly labeled, make sure your system is consistent. Work will be much more enjoyable when you can always find what you are looking for.

Most of all make the space your office space. Guests should immediately know who they are working with when they walk in and ultimately, your office space is a reflection of who you are.
