So many classic songs have been written about the subject of love. It would not be farfetched to claim that at least 95% of all songs have been created about this universal theme. Some even claim that this percentage is higher. You may be asking yourself now why so many songs are about this topic. Why couldn't they write about other things? The answer is simple: love is universal and it's the one thing that guarantees happiness and gives meaning to life. Everyone is touched by love at different moments and in distinct ways. It's no surprise so many songs have been written about it.
Below is a list of what are, in my opinion, the 30 best love songs in music history, so that everyone everywhere can listen to the very best, especially those who are unaware of these songs. In addition, I will provide a short description of each song, all in a series of 6 articles. Be aware that the songs have not been placed in any particular order.
1. "Woman" by John Lennon - "Woman" is a song that expresses how much a man is thankful for the woman in their life and was the first song released after Lennon's assassination in 1980. It's certainly one of the best ballads ever composed highlighted by the easy rhythm and beautiful lyrics.
2. "When I Need You" by Leo Sayer - This classic love song from Leo Sayer is still frequently heard on adult contemporary radio stations. It's not really a surprise given the emotions and feelings that the song espouses about always being close to your lover despite the distances that may separate you. "When I Need You" is a song sure to pull your heart's strings.
3. "The One That You Love" by Air Supply - If there was a song that could be a role model to follow for future ballads, this could be it. "The One That You Love" is a beautiful song with a memorable melody dealing with the theme of a person always being there for their lover, no matter the circumstances. It was a number one hit when it was released demonstrating its relevance to people everywhere.
4. "How Deep Is Your Love" by the Bee Gees - While the Bee Gees are mainly for their significant contribution to the soundtrack of the film Saturday Night Fever, they were also creators of great ballads. "How Deep Is Your Love" is probably their greatest ballad and explores a person's desire to find out how much their lover truly loves them, given that they are many bad things in the world. The great combination of the Bee Gees' voices is the highlight of this outstanding ballad.
5. "Everything I Do (I Do It For You)" by Bryan Adams - "Everything I Do" is arguably Bryan Adam's most well-known hits and his signature song. Written for the film Robin Hood King of Thieves, it could be argued that it overshadowed the film itself and could be one of the main reasons for the film's success. The song's theme of expressing how you would do literally anything for your lover given how much you love them is a universal one, which is why it remains as powerful and relevant as it was back when it was released.
The following article will continue with the theme and feature another 5 of the greatest classic songs about love of all time.
