A large resort that is the most characteristic of European style, along the Turkey`s coastline is Marmaris and is an energetic and elegent centre of tourism especially in the summertime. When you come across the north eastern Mediterranean shore, it is actually the first town along the well-known `Turquoise Coast`. Around the bay you will find Marmaris, which has a new modern marina, at the base of mountains, surrounded by lush trees, which caters to both private yachts and commercial cruise lines sailing the Mediaterranean. Suleyman the Magnificient named Marmaris, according to local storytellers, when he exclaimed, `Mimari as!` after not liking the finished results of the stronghold he commissioned.it means `kill the designer`.



Marmaris shopping can be a pleasant experience. Extraordinary bargains can be had on items as varied as jewelry, ceramics, leather and carpets with many of the better deals being found at the Carsi Market which is found in the Ottoman Castle. It has over 200 different shops and a flea market which is open every day, including a special Thursday market where local people come to market their fruits and vegetables also with fabrics and clothing. But in order to enjoy the Marmaris experience, one must be prepared. Many vendors, especially the ones in the bazaars, are known to tout customers which, while illegal, can be a real irritant. As a rule, it is expected that shoppers bargain with them over prices, except in the larger shops. Through negotiation, you may be able to purchase a wanted item for as much as 30 percent off its already-cheap price. Shoppers are warned to be on their toes because many of the goods at Marmaris are actually designer knock-offs. great prices on expensive items should be a red flag that it is not a real item. Of course, this doesn't mean that you shouldn't buy it as in Turkey, fakes are of good quality!

The savage and non-indigenous evenings in Marmaris often encircle Bar Street by the waterfront. Here you can find all the nightclubs and bars, overflowing with people until as late as 4am. Early morning partiers with the munchies are happy to find that most of the restaurants in the area are open 24 hours. Some of the best places to go are Davy Jones` Locker, with dancing all night long and affordable cocktails, Vagabundo, a club right on the beach where the staff dance up on the bar, as well as Cheers, right on the beach as well, with a drag act and places to sit outdoors away from the heat.
