This coffee falls into your stomach, and straightway there is a general commotion. Ideas begin to move like the battalions of the Grand Army of the battlefield, and the battle takes place. Things remembered arrive at full gallop, ensuing to the wind. The light cavalry of comparisons deliver a magnificent deploying charge, the artillery of logic hurry up with their train and ammunition, the shafts of with start up like sharpshooters. Similes arise, the paper is covered with ink; for the struggle commences and is concluded with torrents of black water, just as a battle with powder.
We can blame it all on a goat in Ethiopia. When shepherds tending a gaggle of goats noticed that the goats were really leaping and frolicking after eating the read berries of the coffee bush, they tried it themselves and an industry was born that engulfed the entire globe.
Morning Ritual
That morning cup of coffee is used by millions of people around the world to jump start their day. Grabbing a cup of coffee either at home or at your favorite coffee shop is a morning ritual. The Coffee may taste a little different in Boston than it does in Bangkok, but the protocol is the same. Gotta have that first cup or I just can't function is the mantra of many.
Caffeine
The ingredient in caffeine that wakes you up in the morning is caffeine. You probably already knew that, didn't you? Anyway, when you get that morning jolt of caffeine in that first cup, it helps you to start you day in high gear. It's that initial jump-start that makes it possible for us to face the day with confidence and strength.
Time to Roast the Beans
After the berry ripens, it is harbested and the beans extracted. The green coffee beans are roasted into coffee products. Roasting expands the green coffee bean to nearly twice its size. It changes color, density and taste. The heat from the roasting causes a chemical reaction that turn carbohydrates and fats into aromatic oils. The carbon dioxide and moisture are removed, the acids build up and the coffee flavor is unlocked.
You name it and I bet someone has added it to their cup of coffee. From congnac to cream, coffee has been flavored for centures. Even nuts have been added to coffee for Heaven's sake. It's all according to how you like it and, of course, some like it black or straight up.
Coffee was Discovered Around 850 A.D.
One way to promote a product is to outlaw it. That's what happened in Turkey in 1543 when the Ottoman Empire banned coffee. Once outlawed everyone wanted some. But the Arabs prohibited its export. Naturally, a black market occured in coffee and seedling wee smuggled out of the Arab lands and eventually spread all over the world.
Coffee is often called Java. That's because the Dutch smuggled the coffee bush seedlings out of Arabia and sent it to their colonies in the Pacific. One of the palces where the coffee ended up was the island of Java in 1696, hence Java for coffee.
