Listed below are some useful abrasion home remedies that you can undertake when receiving certain wounds.
Cease the bleeding. The first thing that you need to do when receiving an abrasion, is to stop the bleeding. You should do this by applying pressure to the wound with a clean cloth or tissue. If it is possible, lift the wound above the heart in order to slow down the bleeding.
Clean the wound. Cleaning the wound with salted water, or an antiseptic ointment which does not sting, is one of the most important things to do. If the wound is particularly dirty, then rinse first with hydrogen peroxide, as the bubbles contained in this solution will lift out the dirt. However, it is essential that you apply this carefully, as the solution can damage the surrounding skin of the wound.
Use iodine. Iodine is a wonderful solution for minor abrasions as it kills bacteria and viruses effectively.
Skin closure. It is necessary to close the skin in order for it to heal properly and to reduce the chances of scarring. After you have cleaned the wound sufficiently, then close the skin and apply an adhesive bandage.
Covering the wound. In order to keep the wound protected and clean, it is important that it be covered. Plain gauze, Telfa, gauze-type bandage and adhesive bandages can all be used to cover the wound. It is essential to remember not to cover the wound too tightly, as it is important that the wound receives a little air flow.
Ensure cleanliness. Every day, remove the bandage and clean the wound with salt water in order to prevent infection.
Do not allow the wound to dry. Applying an antibacterial ointment every day will prevent the wound from drying out completely. This is necessary to prevent cracking and the tearing of the healthy skin which is surrounding the wound.
Lick the wound. Licking the wound can help to remove contaminants, if you do not have immediate access to salt water or an antiseptic ointment. Licking the wound helps as saliva contains antibacterial agents. However, saliva can also contain bacteria which can cause infection, so be sure to follow this up with an antibacterial ointment.
Do not pick scabs. If the wound forms a scab, it is essential not to pick it, as this can cause bacteria. If the wound does form a scab, then soak it in a solution made of one tablespoon of white vinegar and one pint of water. This solution will help to kill any bacteria present in the wound.
Keep the wound moist at night. Before going to bed, place a little Vaseline onto the wound in order to keep it moist and prevent it from cracking.
Protect the wound from sunlight. It is essential to protect the wound from sunlight during the healing process. Once the wound has almost healed, be sure to use a sun protection factor, minimum SPF 15, to avoid the skin from darkening due to sun exposure.
These particular home remedies will help you for minor abrasions. However, it is advised to seek medical advice, if you receive a deep abrasion.

Jaundice is the yellow color seen in the skin of many newborns. It happens when a chemical called bilirubin builds up in the baby's blood. Jaundice can occur in babies of any race or color. This is usually a temporary condition, but may be a more serious sign of another illness. Jaundice is caused by the breakdown of red blood cells. As the old cells are broken down, hemoglobin is changed into bilirubin and removed by the liver.
There are two kinds of jaundice. The first is known as physiological jaundice and is common in newborn babies. It usually becomes noticeable during the baby's first three to five days of life. It disappears as the baby's liver matures. This type of jaundice is not harmful.
People may have itching, light-colored stools, or other symptoms, depending on the cause of jaundice. For example, acute inflammation of the liver (acute hepatitis) may cause loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and fever. Blockage of bile may result in abdominal pain and fever. There are three types of jaundice that affects adults are:
? Hemolytic jaundice
? Hepatocellular jaundice and
? Obstructive jaundice
Causes of Jaundice may be caused by an obstruction of the bile ducts which normally discharge bile salts and pigment into the intestine. The bile gets mixed with blood and this gives a yellow pigmentation to the skin. Jaundice may be caused by a number of factors such as :-
? An obstruction of the bile duct, often due to a tumor or gallstone
? Hepatitis: an inflammation of the liver
? Biliary stricture: a narrowing of the duct that transports bile from the liver to the small intestine
? Cirrhosis: a slowly progressing disease in which healthy liver tissue is replaced with scar tissue, eventually preventing the liver from functioning properly
? Pancreatic cancer
? Inadequate blood flow to the liver
? Congenital disorders involving bilirubin
? Malaria: a serious and sometimes fatal disease in humans caused by a parasite transmitted by mosquitoes
