I'm sure if you're in your late teens and you're about to enter college or you're in high school, I'm sure you've heard the credit cards are awful and you should stay away from them. Its funny how we tend to listen to people that generally don't know what they are talking about and today I'm going to rant a little bit on why you should give credit cards a shot and how you should use them properly. If you simply follow my guidelines, you will think credit cards are the best things ever.
I guarantee that anytime you hear that credit cards are bad, you're hearing it from some guy or gal that doesn't know how to manage their money properly. This is probably coming out of the mouth of someone that spends and spends without knowing how much they have spent. Then, when the credit card bill comes in the mail, they have that shocked look at their face wondering how they are going to pay it!? Oh, boo hoo, we should all feel sorry about you because you can't keep track of your expenses.
When it comes to society, people generally think that the rest of America thinks like them. So, when they go into debt, they want to tell everyone else to stay away from credit cards because they can't use them properly. Well, I'm sorry to say but the beautiful thing about this life is that we're all different, that's what I think keeps us sane on this planet. Could you imagine if everyone was the same and thought credit cards were bad? No one would have one and this world would just stink.
Credit cards are a wonderful tool you can really take advantage of. From getting cash back on all of your purchases to saving at the gas pump, you can really take advantage of these cards. There are two simple steps that you need to follow and if you can follow these steps, you will be using credit cards in your favor.
Know your limits ? This is so simple, it's stupid. Don't spend more than what you can afford. Make sure that you treat your card as if it's money (which it is). If it helps, write down all of your purchases on a piece of paper so that you can keep track of them. If you can do this, you're already on the right step.
Pay off in time ? This is the most important step that you need to take advantage of. When it comes to your credit card bill, make sure that you pay your bill off in full each month. If you can accomplish this, you'll be getting an interest free loan for a month. A credit card company will never charge you interest if you pay the card off in full.
Believe It or not, these are the two rules you need to remember in order to take advantage of the credit companies. Now, that wasn't so hard, was it? People love to give things a bad name and it's only because they don't have the discipline to use a card right.
College Students And Credit
If you're applying for your first credit card or you've possibly already have applied for one, you may have found that when you applied for your first credit card that you made the mistake of not doing your research. Just like a purchase, a credit card application is very similar, where if you don't do your research, you may not get what you wanted.
In order to find which credit card fits your needs, you'll have to ask yourself a few questions before you start looking for that perfect credit card. After you browse through the next few questions, it should help you better understand what kind of credit card will best suit you.
What do you do a lot of?
When you ask yourself this question, you also have to ask yourself these questions as well, ?Do you drive a lot??, ?Do you shop a lot??, and ?Do you travel a lot via airliners?? This will give you a good idea on what kind of credit card you want to apply for.
It basically comes down to this. Credit card rewards generally vary in a few forms. You have your gasoline rewards, airliner rewards, travel rewards, and your point rewards. The most common form is point rewards. This is where you receive a ?point? with every dollar you spend. Depending on the credit card company, you can then use these points to buy particular items.
Citi Bank's ThankYou Network has a very great system and online point store that basically has everything under the sun from gift cards to plane tickets. If you're not a big fan of the Citi Bank credit cards, there other similar packages as well with other bank issuers.
Will you be spending a lot?
The reason this question is asked is because some credit card companies may offer incentives if you spend so much per month, year, etc. Remember, when you're using your credit card, it's important that you spend responsibly and you don't spend more than what you have. If you know you're going to be using your credit card a lot, make sure you know what kind of incentives are offered by credit card companies. The more you spend, the more the credit card companies are going to like you.
Do your research
The best way to the perfect credit card rewards is to ask around. It's always best to ask someone around your parent's age or maybe even your grandparent's age. Ask them what kind of credit card they use and if they like it. Ask them what kind of rewards it offers and if they take advantage of the rewards.
It's always best to ask someone outside of the internet world because a lot of the times when you do a search for a review online, you will most likely find a negative review. This is why it's best to steer clear of that.
These three golden steps should definitely help you find your perfect reward credit card or at least it will get you on the right foot. All you need to do now is sit down, write down these questions and ask yourself. Once you figure out all of the answers, be sure to start browsing for that credit card.
