Fries, pizza and soda are definitely not the healthiest foods, but there is no evidence that having them as a part of your regular diet causes acne. The same goes to chocolate and other sweets. Most probably, this myth originated due to the fact that junk food and various desserts are favorites among teenagers, who are prone to frequent acne outbreaks. Still, if you have bad acne, keeping to a healthier diet won't hurt since your acne might be caused by toxins accumulated in your body.



Acne is caused by stress! - Focusing on dealing with stress is not an effective way to remove acne. It has been said that stress related drugs could have a side effect to treat acne but it only makes a small difference. There are other methods and treatments to concentrate on rather than looking and your stress level.

Acne occurs to teenagers only. Wrong. Although acne mostly affects teenagers, specifically those between the ages 12 and 17, it is, in fact, not limited to any age group. Acne can even badly affect adults in their forties. It is worth noting here that, although acne afflicts boys and girls alike, young men tend to have long-term and severe acne. On the other hand, women are more likely to have intermittent occurrence of acne due to hormonal changes.

While there is nothing wrong with washing your face frequently, the problem lies in what you use to wash your face. Many acne sufferers often use chemicals and harsh facial cleaners to wash their face. They wash vigorously thinking that they can remove the layer of dead skin causing acne. The truth is the root cause of acne problems does not lie on the skin layer but rather beneath it and washing your face vigorously does not cure acne but will instead aggravate your acne condition such as skin redness and irritation. I would suggest washing your face just twice a day with a mild facial cleanser.

Acne should be allowed to run its course. - This should not be the case today with the availability of so much knowledge and advanced treatment. Acne can be cleared up with the many products available today. However, if you have tried acne products and they have failed, then it is time you consulted your dermatologist.

Acne can be found usually on the face but, in some cases it can be found on the neck, arms, back, on the scalp, under your arms, genital area, buttocks and even legs. Some of the myths of acne are that it is caused by the foods people eat. Other myths are that acne is caused by not keeping the body clean or even by the amount of sexual drive one has. This is not a true fact! Studies have been conducted to prove this fact.
