Coping With Panic Attacks

    View:
The main symptoms of panic attacks can often be unexpected and recurring situations of intense fear and discomfort. The attacks can often take place when your mind realizes there's an imminent danger nearby or simply when no danger is detected or in an ordinary situation.

There are a variety of different symptoms associated with a panic attack with the most common being a racing heartbeat and intense feelings of fear. Usually these attacks can last anywhere from a few minutes to hours.

Sometimes anxiety attacks will result when your mind detects an immediate danger or they can also result without warning.

The main symptoms of a panic attack include:

- Racing heartbeat

- Shortness of breath

- Intense fear (Usually a fear of dying or a fear of losing your mind)

- Trembling or shaking

- Dizziness (Usually caused by rapid breathing)

- Feelings of not being in reality

Panic attacks can regularly affect children more than an adult because a child is less adept at handling the symptoms compared to an adult. An adult has an easier time grasping the fact that panic attacks are normally not life threatening then compared to a childs view of panic attacks and the symptoms that cause them to be desperately afraid.

Panic/Anxiety attacks often runs in families and if not treated can cause serious complications in a childs life. Panic attacks can affect a childs relationships with family and other students at school and result in poor grades and overall poor development.

When a child expects recurring attacks, often times they will develop and live in a constant state of fear or anxious feeling because they expect another panic attack to occur. In severe situations they will be afraid to leave home or avoid certain places. This type of condition is known as agoraphobia and is not uncommon with children that experience panic attacks regularly.

Another thing to look for if a child is experiencing chronic panic attacks is turning to substance abuse. Early treatment is important to help avoid a child developing severe changes in their lifestyle such as substance abuse, agoraphobia, suicidal behavior and severe cases of depression.
Coping With Panic Attacks
You'll learn a lot about negative thinking and how to replace negative thoughts with positive ones while learning to master breathing techniques that will assist you in stopping panic attacks happening with therapy.

The problem is that it takes time to master and there is a big chance you will suffer from more panic attacks before you actually get to learn how to stop them from happening. This is where the right medication kicks in.

While you are taking the drugs for panic attacks it could be wise to get involved in various stress relieving activities like yoga, meditation, tai chi, individual sports or you can also sign up for the anger management classes. Basically anything helps which trains you to deal with worries and anxiety.

You also should be aware that the panic attack medication needs to be prescribed by a doctor. Usually you would take drugs like Prozac, Paxil or Zoloft, which are commonly known as SSRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors).

These are useful as they help the patient to have control over the panic attack and there are many cases where individuals learn how to fight different triggers while on such medication. Success like this can eventually lead to the panic attack cycle disappearing and the patient could end up having to stop medication because he/she is free of panic attacks and have learnt how to deal with panic attacks.

The doctor can also prescribe more serious drugs while the patient is learning on how to manage panic attacks and limited use of Valium or Xanax (two common benzodiazepines) might be needed.

It is important to understand that such drugs must not be abused as they can quickly become addictive and you should only take them in cases of emergency and not for long periods of time.

The really grave problem stands in the fact that many people start to use illegal or prescribed drugs and/or alcohol as a way of solving panic attacks. That can only lead to dependency to those medications and alcohol and would bring more problems that needs to be dealt with. Why should you go through all of this trouble when by combining the right medication prescribed by a doctor and relaxation techniques you can get real, long term results and deal with panic attacks?

Are Tanning Beds Dangerous
Personally I think the biggest risks are when people take silly choices by lying in the sun for hours and hours on end every single day, or using a tanning bed for excessive times every single day
