Sitting right on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, along the state's southwest shoreline, and in Orange County, the area boasts one of the most delightful of climates in the country. While summers can be hot, the cool ocean breezes tend to take the edge off of the worst of the heat, and winters are very mild.



The area is not exactly known for its natural resources; although it does have some small oil reserves and off-shore pumping rigs. Mainly, the economy is geared toward the high-tech industries of aeronautics and space. The Boeing Company has several facilities in the area, and a number of them were used back during the Apollo Program in the construction of the Saturn rockets.

Of course, what the area is chiefly known for is its surfing; several major surfing competitions are held in Huntington Beach every year. As there are two freeways running through the area (Freeway 55 and Freeway 5), you have easy access to the downtown district, shopping areas, parks and recreation centers, the theme parks, and the schools.

Of course, Huntington Beach being the sort of community it is, and in the location it is in, apartment rents tend to be quite high. In the case of a one to three bedroom place with one or two bathrooms, rents can range from around a thousand to well over two thousand dollars a month. The more expensive places tend to be in the best locations, which is typical for apartments. For that extra payment, you can expect to be conveniently close to the museums, the wildlife preserve, the marinas and piers, and some great equestrian trails. When the summer heat starts to fry you a bit too much; the area has some wonderful indoor activities to occupy your time. The Huntington Beach Playhouse puts on a wonderful variety of shows. And, of course, there is always the beach.
