Generally the people acquire this habit in their teen-age and find it fashionable. As is normal during adolescence one learns it from friends and don't care about its results. They become victim of a common illusion that smoking is a sign of being grown up.
Another common illusion is that it is a sign of male behavior. You can think that this illusion is decades old because only boys used to smoke and girls, barring exceptions, did not like to smoke. This is no longer the case as now many young girls too have started smoking.
In the beginning it is not realized that smoking is addictive. while it is possible, else as usual with all addictive things their use makes one more vulnerable. The ?kick? or pleasure is transient and one feels the craving of it again and again. After some time you need more of it to get the same sensation. This is the point when a habit becomes an addiction. It is not the act of smoking that makes you crave, it is nicotine which is the addictive substance in tobacco smoking.
Like all other addictions one finds difficult. If the craving of a smoke is not fulfilled the person is unable to concentrate on work, feels indifferent and out of form. His/her performance too suffers. Hence, for quitting smoking it is necessary to consult some physician or those who have quitted this habit.
Cough After Quitting Smoking
For most smokers the thought of quitting rarely crosses their minds. That is until one factor or another brings the idea to the forefront of their thoughts. Perhaps they have had a health scare. Perhaps they are finally noticing the toll that smoking is taking on their bodies. Whatever the reason is doesn't matter. What does matter is that in actually taking the steps to quit, education and preparation MUST come before you stop.
Preparation and education is the key to everything, including quitting smoking. You wouldn't attempt to rebuild your car's engine just because you bought a set of tools off the shelf, or sew a dress for your daughter's wedding after picking up your first ever sewing machine, so please don't think that you can buy an off the shelf smoking cessation aid and you are home free. You would have just as much luck getting your car's engine back together properly as quitting smoking. Oh sure, eventually you might get it right, but why waste your efforts when the proper information is available to help you be successful the first time.
Scour the internet. Look at the available stop smoking programs and really compare them. Don't just buy the first one you see. And make sure that the program you are buying is grounded in education and preparation about quitting first and supplements or cessation aids second. You should be encouraged to take your time to learn and prepare as opposed to placing your faith in a product that states that there is no effort required on your part.
Nothing comes without a little effort from you - especially this. Remember, quitting is the easy part - you just stop. It's the preparations you take before you quit that determines if you'll be successful or not. So make sure you have all the data you need before you try and you will be the success you want to be.
