Crawl Space Mold Removal

    View:
Mold or mildew as its known thrives in warm and moist climates. It will practically eat away into anything that is organic such as wood, cloth, fiber, leather, paper and surfaces that may be coated with soil, food particles, and other organic matter. Furniture is also extremely prone to mold and mildew since it's organic. Removal from furniture that has been placed in warm and humid climate is extremely important. The best way to prevent the need to remove mold is to keep furniture away from damp areas and clean it regularly.

Nevertheless, when furniture has mold, you can follow these steps for cleaning it

Mold removal should be done as soon as it is visibly seen. If the furniture is giving a musty smell, then it's also the time to begin. Using mild detergent and water, you can do it yourself at home. Ensure that the detergent isn't hard else it may damage the furniture.

Steps in mold removal for furniture:

Clean only a small portion at a time. Then wipe the area with another cloth dipped in clean water. Dry the area completely or the mold will grow back. Each area should be completely dry during the process before going to the next area.

If there is a white greasy build-up, remove that with furniture cleaner. Once removal has been done, put on a layer of wax as the furniture lost its protective cover of wax during the process. Remember, never use bleach on polished surfaces as it will spoil the appearance.

Mold removal should be done on what has grown inside the furniture too. Gently scrub the affected parts with mixture of 1 part chlorine and 5 parts water. Always wear gloves when handling chlorine. Flush with water if the chlorine mixture touches the eyes or mouth. Prolonged exposure to chlorine or other processes can cause skin damage.

It's best to leave the furniture to dry in the sun after the after the mold removal process. Sunlight is a natural disinfectant and will kill the spores that may be present. Sunlight also helps dry out the surfaces. Change the positions of the furniture a couple of times to ensure that all areas of the furniture receive enough sunlight. Of course check first to see if there is enough sunlight to aid in mold removal. If it's raining, then dry the surfaces under a fan or a dryer.

Professional help should be called in when there has been excessive mold is present. Another point to consider is that wooden furniture is usually coated with a sealant that discourages mold growth but in some cases the furniture has lost that shield so if mold is present, then mold removal in necessary.
Crawl Space Mold Removal
Mold contamination can cause a variety of diseases, from a simple and slight headache to a complicated and fatal pulmonary hemorrhage. And while it is true that mold contamination can ruin your home structure badly, the even more dangerous effect is how it can put your kids' health in danger. This in turn causes the biggest health alarm to moms most of all. The responsibility of getting rid of toxic mold and ensuring the whole family's safety is willingly taken on by mommies. For their kids' safety, mommies would gladly plunge into several mold removal strategies to get the black mold out of their homes the soonest possible time.

Below are a few do-it-yourself mold removal tips for all mommies.

1. The first thing to remember before starting with the mold removal process is your safety. Before starting with anything, keep your safety gloves and safety masks within your reach. Make sure that you do not have skin allergies. Otherwise, do not ever attempt to conduct mold removal procedures on your own. If your home has just been flooded, keeping your wellies ready will be a good idea as well. Aside from your own safety, you also need to ensure the safety of your kids. Keep your kids away from the infected area during the mold removal period. You can make a temporary "safe room" where you could allow your kids to play and sleep while you do your mold removal work.

2. As much as possible, keep the windows open all the time. Mold contamination is made possible by excessive moisture. Maintain good ventilation inside your home all the time. This is an effective safety precaution because this allows fresh air to freely get in and out of your home. Another tip for good air flow is keeping dehumidifiers, electric fans and air conditioners switched on as often as possible. Avoid staying too long inside the contaminated room. Make sure that you take time to breathe some fresh air after every 15 minutes.

3. Choose your mold cleaners very carefully. Some commercial cleaners, just like the black mold, contain toxins which can be very dangerous to your health. The harmful chemicals may cause a variety of health hazards as well - food poisoning, skin allergies and the like. Proper and careful handling is highly imperative when dealing with commercial cleaners. To ensure safety, you can always opt for organic cleaners. These natural cleaners have not only been proven effective. They have also been proven to be safe and harmless to people, to pets and to the environment.

4. If flood water is still present, take time to prioritize disposal of stuffed furniture. Couches, pillows and beddings should be considered for replacement and not for restoration. This will help ensure added safety from mold contamination. Dirty stuffed furniture makes a good environment for the mold to survive. They even feed on these fluffy materials.

5. If you have poor resistance, it is highly recommended that you opt for professional mold remediators instead of going for a do-it-yourself mold remediation. Mold remediators do not only guarantee a successful procedure, they also ensure your safety as well as that of the whole family.

Sure, Moms will always have the option to perform a do-it-yourself mold removal. In the name of safety and freedom from health risks, why not? Throughout the whole process however, always keep your safety a priority. Getting yourself sick, just like mold contamination, will not yield good results for your kids.
