Hey brand new Second Life fans! Tired of looking new and boring? Want a sexy custom look that will make the other residents fall head over heels in love? Then you need to find several things to make yourself look uniquely you! Follow these steps and you will be on your way to a new impressive look.
Stuff you need for this adventure: Skin Texture Shape Stylish Hair Pupils Extras Clothes Shoes Couple of Hours Some Linden Dollars
To Begin you need a really good skin & shape! I put these two together because they go hand in hand. A good shape and skin are essential to both men and women who want to look good in Second Life. It is important especially if you plan to run a business.
But it is also important because how you look impacts how people react to you. Few people take a basic "Ruth" seriously. Ruth is the term used for new players who have the basic and somewhat horrible basic skin and shape.
Doing this will not be hard. All you do is use the searches reinforced into the SL client and do a search for skins & shapes. Most of these cost between $L500 and $L3000 lindens.
There are cheaper deals out there, but be cautious if they do not allow you to see a manifestation of the skin or shape. Just like in the real world the people in Second Life are not always very nice folks.
You do not even have to stay human! If you would like to you can search for "Furry" or "Neko" and become an animal like character with your avatar. There is a large number of residents who have chosen to become a Neko or Furry Digital Avie.
Hair is on the list now for your next item to aquire. The basic hair is very plain and will not help you set up your individual personality very well. So go shopping around to see which hair creators are best for both price and quality.
There is no need to settle on just one store, but if you like most of the styles there, you will have a lot of hair that exactly matches color wise too! Again to find hair you simply do searches in the built in search feature of Second Life.
After skin, hair, and shape, you will need an animation over-ride, also referred to as an "AO". By now you have noticed that you are walking around like you're stuck to a rigid board and have a limp. Not very flattering
Sooner or later an AO will fix that and add your personal style! Searching for AO or Animation Override can bring good results. There are hundreds of animation over-ride models out there for you to choose from, and each remarkably has a theme like "bad boy" or "sweet girl".
So now you look pretty good and you are no longer walking around SL like a pirate with a peg-leg. The final items you will want to acquire are things to wear and footwear.
Shopping for the perfect items can take you a while, but it can be extremely fun! Nice clothing from good designers will run you from $L100 to $L3000 per outfit.
The standard outfit tends to cost about $L400. There are some freebies out there that are not too defective if you're on a little budget as well. I hope that this has helped and you will love your time in Second Life!
Tips and Advice:
Prices can vary greatly, but you can find quality on a budget. Look through the last few pages of the classified, prices are usually lower. If a price seems to crazy.. Watch your wallet! If a photo seems unrealistic, avoid the product If a shoot looks photo shopped, watch out!
Creating A Custom Control
If you are one of the many people that are now considering having a piece of custom jewelry created then it doesn't hurt to have an understanding of the process by which the jeweler is going to create the piece. If you have already spoken to a jeweler, you may have been a little confused when he showed you rings or other pieces that were made out of wax when you discussed your design ideas with him.
This is because, the first step to casting a piece of jewelry is to make it out of wax. Its called the 'lost wax' casting method. After the piece is created out of wax in exact detail, the jeweler will then place it in a container about the size of a small coffee can that is filled with wet plaster and the plaster will be allowed to cure and dry. The dried container of plaster with the wax 'piece of jewelry' encased in it is then placed in a hot kiln.
This is done so the wax piece will melt out of the plaster and the result is that a hollow space shaped just like the original wax piece will be left inside the canister of hardened plaster. The jeweler will then place the canister of plaster in a device that spins the plaster canister, so centrifugal force will force molten metal into every crevice and detail in the hollow spot inside of it.
After the metal cast has been allowed some time to cool the plaster will be chipped away to reveal the piece that was originally made from wax, now made out of precious metal. It will be cleaned up and any details will be added to it by carving or welding. Then it will be polished and any stones that are going on it will be added.
