Cruise ships and catamarans dock in front of Fort Seward, which was the only military base in the whole territory for years. It is now a National Historic Landmark. The Chilkat Indian Dancers perform at the tribal house on the Fort Seward parade grounds, with their elaborate costumes and carved masks. The former fort hospital now houses the Alaska Indian Arts, where you can often observe native Tlingits carving totem poles, weavers making blankets and metal smiths working with silver.

Just a half mile away by foot, taxi or shuttle bus is downtown Haines. Haines is located in the "Valley of the Eagles", and the American Bald Eagle Foundation has exhibits, videos and a gift shop dedicated to our national bird. You can also sign up for a relaxing float trip through the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve to observe these magnificent birds and view the beautiful scenery. Also, nearby Dalton City was created for the movie "White Fang", and is now the Haines Brewing Company and Klondike Saloon.
