These are predominantly associated with software, and allow you to alter the source code that comes with the product so that you can customize the software to suit your own needs, or to iron out any bugs, before selling it on to your target market.
That's basically a summary of the most common types of resale rights available, but there's one final important point that I want to make. Remember that every product is different, and will come with different rights. Always read the license agreement thoroughly to see exactly what you can and cannot do with a product, and if you are in any doubt whatsoever, always contact the original creator of the product for confirmation.
