1. Vakri (Retrograde) and Margi (Straight Moving)Planets



Astrologers often mention ‘Vakri’ or ‘Margi’ against the planets in the life chart of an individual. ‘Vakri’ refers to planet, which moves backwards and becomes retrograde instead of moving forward. For example, a planet occupying ‘Leo’ in the birth chart moves backwards to ‘Cancer’ instead of ‘Virgo’ after completing its course is called ‘Vakri’.

‘Margi’ is just the opposite of ‘Vakri’.It is a plenty, which moves ahead and forward. For example, a planet occupying ‘Leo’ in the birth chart moves forward to ‘Virgo’ and then to ‘Libra’ and so on and so forth, is called ‘Margi’.

Sun and Moon always move straight, hence’Margis’.Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn sometimes become’ Margi’ and sometimes ‘Vakri’. Rahu and Ketu are always’Vakri’.A

‘Margi’ planet achieves its aim and destination, whereas a ‘Vakri’.planet is deprived of its destination. In simple words straight movements of planets is called ‘Margi’ and their backward movement is called ‘Vakri’.

2. Rising and Setting Planets

Some planets are awake i.e. they are full of power and light; whereas others are asleep i.e. they are setting or sinking planets and are dead for all intents and purposes.

Astrology planet is one which is in conjunction with Sun or is at a distance of 6 degrees (Ansh) from Sun. Sun combust such a planet and destroys its power and potential.etting or combusting Venus is the most malefic, but this cannot be said of Mercury . According to some astrologers, Sun

cannot combust and destroys Mercury as it always resides near the Sun. If Sun is the monkey, then Mercury is tail. Since animal residing in a river or an ocean are never drowned by water, so is the case with Mercury m ay become dim in the presence of Sun, but is never destroyed.

A setting planet brings misery and disease, whereas a rising planet is the source of happiness, health and prosperity. A setting planet is like a diseased person on the brink of death and a rising planet is like a healthy man who enjoys all the pleasures of life. A setting becomes very weak and malefic during Solar/Lunar eclipse. Besides any enemy planet in association with or in adverse aspect of Rahu/Ketu becomes inauspicious, malefic and debilitating. For example, Rahu in 3rd house destroys Sun in the 9th house, howsoever powerful it may be or Sun in association with Rahu is eclipsed. Similarly, Moon in conjunction with Ketu or directly aspect by it is completely eclipsed and afflicted.

3. Planets/Raashis and Degrees (Ansh)

Heavenly sphere consists of 360 degrees and each sign (Raashi) comprises 30 degrees –making the total 360 degrees .To know on what degree a particular planet or Raashi is situated, astrologers indicate it in the birth chart after studying the Panchang (ephemeredes) or Jantri of that particular year.
