Disneys Hilton Head Island Resort

    View:
Nestled on the southern coastline of South Carolina, and looking out over the Atlantic Ocean, is the resort community of Hilton Head Island. Hilton Head Island is a wonderfully relaxing blend of excitement, activities, fun, and history, all wrapped into one amazing vacation destination. No matter what you are longing for, white sand beaches, top of the line golf courses, fine dining, or world class spa treatments, you will find it all here on Hilton Head Island.

On Hilton Head Island, there are many wonderful resorts and hotels to choose from. But, the crown jewel of the island is truly the Crowne Plaza Oceanfront Beach Resort. Located in a gated area on the southern end of the island in the Shipyard Plantation area, the Crowne Plaza Oceanfront Beach Resort has something for everyone to enjoy, and is rated as a Four Diamond resort by AAA.

In each spacious room, you will find many amenities that will make your stay one to remember. From the complimentary morning newspaper delivered right to your door to the in-room movies, you will love every minute of your stay here. All rooms in the resort, from the guest rooms to suites, come with cable TV, a CD player, coffee maker, and mini bar for guests to enjoy while they lay back and relax here at the Crowne Plaza Oceanfront Beach Resort. Most of the guest rooms also have a tea maker standard for those guests who prefer a great cup of hot tea, and the suites come with a complimentary turn down service each evening. Housekeeping will clean your rooms daily, and there is an on-site laundry that is complimentary for guests, and is open from 6 am to 6 pm each day. The resort even offers dry cleaning pickup and delivery for your formal attire.

The resort also offers more than your normal hotel. You will find a 24-hour fitness center with only the latest exercise and cardio equipment, all with a sauna and whirlpool right around the corner. During the day, there is a world-class spa that offers all of the latest techniques and treatments available to help you relax and feel truly pampered. Different seasons offer different sports and outdoor activities, so be sure to check with the resort staff to see which ones are available during your visit, but there is always the indoor and outdoor pools to take a dip in and enjoy any time of the year. Of course, there is a wonderful gift shop in the main lobby where you can find all sorts of souvenirs to take home to family and friends, as well as those small things that you might have forgotten when you packed.

The resort offers something for everyone, and this includes the kids. There is are several seasonal children's programs, like the Camp Castaway, that offers a great way for the kids to have some fun on their own. There are also evening activities for the kids during certain times of the year, on Friday and Saturday nights until 10 pm. When you are booking your stay at the Crowne Plaza Oceanfront Beach Resort, be sure to ask about these programs, as most of them do require you to register your children in advance.

But what great resort would be complete without fine dining? The Crowne Plaza Oceanfront Beach Resort is not lacking in that area either! The Portz Piazza and Brellas Terrace both offer outdoor dining and a wonderful overlook where you can enjoy the warm, tropical lagoon just outside your door. Both restaurants offer those old favorites and new creations from world class chefs that will please both your palette and your wallet! Although, if you feel like just laying around the pool or staying in, you can order poolside from Dockers or the Signals Lounge or room service.

The resort also offers a shuttle that will take you within a mile radius of the resort for you to enjoy some of the other sights and sounds of Hilton Head Island. There is so much to do in and around this wonderful resort that you just might not want to leave when your time is up.
Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort
The first written history of Hilton Head begins with Spanish explorers in 1562, who named the area from Key West to the St. Laurence River, La Florida. Before that time, the area was inhabited by indigenous peoples, and evidence of their culture can still be seen in the historic Shell Ring sites found throughout the island.

In 1562, French Huguenot Captain Jean Ribaut explored the area and built a fort near present day Port Royal. The territory was officially named Carolina in 1663 when King Charles II of England granted the territory to a group of proprietors known simply as the Eight Lord Proprietors. The name Hilton Head comes from the English Captain William Hilton, who named it for himself in 1663. A few years later, in 1698, English settlements began in the area known as the Low Country. In 1717, Col. John Barnwell became the first permanent settler on the island after being granted a thousand acres by the Lord Proprietors.

During the Revolutionary War, Hilton Head island was occupied by the Colonists, while nearby Dafuskie island was occupied the Tories, or British sympathizers. During the conflict, British soldiers burned plantations on the island and captured slaves, selling them to the West Indies. After the war, the island recovered and became a flourishing agriculture hub, exporting rice, indigo, and cotton.

At the time of the Civil War, South Carolina was one of the most prosperous states, and many millionaires lived on Hilton Head island. South Carolina was the first state to secede from the Union in 1860, and by October of 1861, 77 Union ships had sailed from Virginia to Port Royal, The island became, towards the end of the war, the headquarters fro the South Atlantic Blocking Squadron, as well as a transfer point for prisoners of war and for wounded soldiers. The first Black troops for the Union also originated from the island, former slaves who, after war, used the money they earned as soldiers to buy land and settle on Hilton Head. The largest naval engagement of the Civil War, The Battle of Port Royal, was also fought on the islands shores.

Today, the island is an immensely popular tourist destination, incorporating pieces of Hilton Heads rich history into modern day museums, monuments, and historic sites. While you are vacationing on the island, be sure to see some of these places for yourself to discover more about the unique history of the area
