One of the biggest mistakes that people who are new to Internet marketing make is that they buy tons of E-books. Either they aren't sure of what to do and are looking for information on how to get started, or they are just fooled by the outlandish promises that many of the E-book creators make. Many E-books are virtually useless, and often cost a substantial amount of money. Most of them you don't need, they are junk.



We Were Fooled

When my wife and I first started out, we would do simple web searches for terms such as 'how to make money online' and things like that. We didn't quite know what we were doing. We would come across E-book pitch after E-book pitch, each claiming to be everything we needed to unlock the 'secret' to making money online. After reading through the all so familiar long single page landing pages, packed with testimonials and pictures of people standing next to BMW's touting how great the product was, we started to buy into them. What we got was ripped off.

Your Average E-book

From my experience, the average E-book that someone tries to sell you consists of a simple PDF file with about 25 pages of large font text in it. The language isn't that great, there are no pictures or graphs or anything, and the entire thing just feels cheap. Not only that, but the material the books contain is generally rehashed material that was stolen from some website in 2002 and often doesn't even apply to today's web. Literally it looks like a 9th grader just scraped up some forum posts and tacked them together and started selling it for 47 dollars. Don't get fooled!

The Resell This Book Pitch

One of the most common E-book scams is something I like to call the 'Resell This Book' scam. This is basically the electronic version of a longtime make money from home scam. Once you buy the E-book, the first page of the 'book' gives you resell rights to that same book. The author then tells you, 'Go forth and resell this same book that I just sold you to other people!' We fell for something like that a couple of times. I couldn't bring myself to go and try and resell those pieces of junk, pretty much just took some of the better ones and gave them out to my online friends for free.

The Real Secret

The real secret to making money online is that there is no secret. Its the same advice you have heard time and time again on many marketing websites, and throughout life. Work hard, don't quit, stick with it, always be learning. Eventually you will succeed. There is no magic way to do nothing and make millions. You don't want to build your business on the latest fad or the latest dishonest marketing gimmick. All the information you will ever need to succeed is freely available, on various marketing websites, and many others across the Internet. Its all you need.
