He obviously wasnt listening to me very well, and went on with his sales speil. It really sounded like he was speaking from one of those canned sales scripts. You probably know them, too, when somebody tries to strangle you with them. I told him I wasnt interested in what his was trying to sell me, and then thanked him for his time then hung up on him.
There is nothing that turns me off more when I get somebody trying to sell me something, and they really dont listen to what I have to say. Selling to somebody isnt all about getting the sale, its about giving a solution to a problem somebody has.
Judging from the time that he called me, I think that I might have also been on one of their live calls. The second thing that turns me off is when somebody puts me in front of a crowd without telling me. There are laws in certain states now that make it illegal to record you without your knowledge, and it is the legal right of the caller to tell the person on the other end of the phone that they are being recorded. If you make calls and record them for future use (i.e. training, etc.) make sure you know which states have these laws.
I wish that they would listen to their prospects. When are they going to get it? Listen to what your prospects have to say! If youre not listening to your prospects, youre only giving them something that you want them to buy.
Judging from this guys lack of listening skills, it looks like hes probably struggling with his business. If he had actually listened to me, he wouldnt have went through his feable, time-wasting attempt at phone-spam. He would have thanked me for my time, then let me get back to what I was doing before he interrupted me.
By listening to your prospects, it also helps build a relationship with them. You also dont come off as a pushy salesperson.
If he actually had asked, I would have told him that there are other ways to generate leads for his business than resorting to pointless phone calls to people that arent looking for his product or service.
I wish the best to the guy that called me, but Ive got one small bit of advice for him: Listen to your prospects. If youre going to be successful in any kind of marketing, it is important to take to heart what your prospects have to say to you.
You will also be more successful at what you do, and be more respected in your area of expertise.

When you make the decision to evangelize at work, it is critical that you remember to be respectful to both your coworker, and to your employers. When you hear others around you whining and complaining about their job or their personal life, don't join in the negativity. Remain positive and uplifting. If you can behave more Christ like, and less like a disgruntled employee, others will see that you are different and they will be attracted to what you have.
Remember to always be friendly, kind, polite, and to show a genuine interest in the lives of your coworkers. When possible, invite them out for lunch or a cup of coffee to get to know them better. Congratulate them and tell them they did a good job when things are going well, and be a good listener and be supportive when things are not going well. Make sure you remember what is going on in the lives of your coworker and add them to your prayers. Then, don't forget to follow up by asking if things are improving and remind them that you care.
When your coworkers are talking about what they did the previous weekend, or what they are looking forward to, you can use this as an opportunity to share what you did over the weekend, or to share how excited you are about an upcoming church event or holiday service. If a religious holiday is coming it is OK to ask them if they have any plans to celebrate. Do not be judgmental if they do not celebrate, but make sure that you are ready to explain what the holiday means to you.
Bring a small gift, or a homemade cookie for a coworker. This can be more touching than anything else, it shows you really care and thought about them. Remember that it is our actions that show who we are.
It is also a good idea to bring your Bible with you to work. You can read it at lunch time or on a break. This can be a great conversation started. Wearing Christian jewelry or t-shirts is another great way to catch the eye of another without having to say a word.
Lastly, be sure to pray for you coworkers and for opportunities to share your faith and the love Jesus has for each and every one of them.
