My sister endured and suffered from frequent severe headaches for many years. It was a part of her life and she had become so used to them that it had become a part of her lifes routine. She ended up taking a lot of medicines to subdue the pain but most of the medicines that she took over the years were able to only reduce the pain to a dull ache. None of the medicines that were tried out obliterated the pain altogether.



The issue took a serious turn when other symptoms started appearing and my sister started to get sudden blackouts. These evolved into situations wherein she lost control of her body and fell, in turn hurting herself. More doctors and more medicines followed but there was no respite. Some doctors tried over-the-counter medicines and the others prescribed sophisticated drugs. But none of them could really understand the real reason behind these headaches.

As the medicines got more sophisticated so did the cost associated with them. My sister ended up spending a sizeable chunk of her income on headache medicines. But we were lucky to find a doctor after a long time that could unearth the mystery and was quite surprised as to why no other physician had thought of checking for mangled sinuses.

We were told that the only treatment fro mangled sinuses was surgery and that is what we went in for. During the operation they realized that the sinuses were extremely mangled and therefore they could not fix the problem completely. Even though the root cause was not able to be corrected fully, all the mutilated sinuses were drained out.

Today my sister still has to spend money on headache medicine but the amount is much lesser since the headaches are less frequent and not as severe. Due to the incomplete procedure, she has to go back for surgery every once in a while but her blackouts and loss of control has stopped.

The real issue now is the side effects of having taken such strong medication over so many years. She has frequent stomach problems which have corroded the inner lining of the stomach. She cannot eat certain foods and has to endure stomach pain in case she is careless about what she is not supposed to eat.

Her case is a reminder to all of you that in case you or someone you know is having severe headaches that are not being diagnosed, it is better to keep trying to find the root cause rather than take severe medicines that will harm your body and make you spend precious bucks.
