Whether you are a newcomer to our unique seven city corridor or you were born and raised in one of the seven surrounding communities' chances are you have yet to learn all about the ghosts that frequent our corridor. There are far more than seven ghost sightings; however we thought we would take each city that makes up the corridor and offer you details on the most talked about ghost tales that continues to haunt each city. Atlantic Beach: It has been said that there are civil war ghosts that have made Fort Macon their permanent post. They lurk and haunt the top of the fort and watch for union soldiers to attack. Rumor has it that the World War II main gates have been known to close on their own while modern day guards keep watch on the place.
Beaufort: Balls of light and blood stains that can't be washed away have been seen at the Hammock House, which was once the home of Blackbeard the pirate. The Beaufort Ghost Walking Tour is a very popular attraction for both locals and tourists.
Havelock: Ghosts sightings have been seen all over this charming colonial town but the one most startling is the ghost of Kissy Sikes. She has been known to haunt the flight line at the Marine Corps Air Station at Cherry Point. Apparently she is looking for her children and in the housing section you can hear children playing. There have been numerous personal testimonies that Kissy herself appears in children's bedrooms after they have been put to bed.
Kinston: There have been many reports about Grainger High School being haunted. Elderly teachers that have since retired have reported that when working on the campus they would hear foot steps in the hallway well after students had left for the day. Also that locker doors and classroom doors would unexpectedly slam shut for no apparent reason.
Newport: There are many ghost sightings in Newport. Too many to list here, however the most recent includes a young-looking girl sporting a bloody wedding dress is rumored to have been seen on numerous instances at midnight chasing a passing Pontiac on a shadowy road in the neighborhood of Newport.
Morehead City: Pretty much has to share the spotlight with Beaufort. There are dozens of chilling stories of haunted houses, ghost ship sightings filled with vile and murderous pirates between these two deep water port cities.
New Bern: The Oliver House, which is a home located in the historic district of downtown New Bern and was built in the 1700's. It has been said that a young child and her father died in the attic of the house while being quarantined for small pox. She can still be heard playing with her toys in the attic. Tourists were eventually no longer permitted to be shown the attic because a tour guide was said to have been pushed by the young ghost's father.
