The development and use of energy work is believed to have been discovered approximately 5,000 years ago when the Chinese discovered a subtle energy system that ran through the body, communicating information. This energy system is referred to as many things including chi, prana, ki, life force and life energy.



The consequent development of acupuncture was based on stimulating various meridian points that lay in specific locations on the meridian or energy lines to treat a wide range of conditions, bringing relief from pain and suffering.

Similarly, Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT for short, is based on a breakthrough in therapy which is providing relief from pain, diseases and emotional issues for tens of thousands of people around the globe. Simply put, EFT is an emotional version of acupuncture without the needles, and it is performing miracles worldwide.

EFT was modelled in 1995 by Gary Craig from the original form of energy therapy, Thought Field Therapy (TFT) which had been founded 10 years earlier. Whilst there is a basic remedy that is widely taught and used, variations on the original process have been emerging over the years and are considered just as effective as the full process depending on the situation.

The basic EFT remedy consists of tapping a number of meridian points on the face, body and hands a certain number of times and in a certain sequence, and includes a brain balancer and eye roll procedure as well. Now many people are modifying the procedure by leaving out the extra brain balancer and eye roll sequence and just tapping on the various points.

Many are also tapping randomly and for varying lengths of time on the numerous points, and achieving equivalent results.

It is suggested that for deep emotional issues, or if results are not being obtained with the more relaxed versions of the therapy, that the person revert back to using the complete procedure to ensure they obtain the results they desire.

There are 2 doctors in Australia, Dr Steve Wells and Dr David Lake, who are teaching continual tapping which involves conventional talk therapy whilst just continually tapping on the various points at random. These doctors are also achieving surprising results promoting tapping on the points of the fingers daily in times of anxiety and high stress and even whilst not focusing on any issue in particular.

This practice of tapping on the points of the fingers whilst not concentrating on any particular issue can have the affect of treating various issues without even realising you are doing so. It is extraordinary the number of people who report noticing that a particular negative emotion or behavioural pattern just isn't there any more when they have been absently tapping on their fingers over a short period of time. It can also have the effect of bringing emotions to the surface that need to be dealt with that would otherwise have remained in the subconscious and perpetuated sabotaging beliefs and behaviours.

Dr Lake and Dr Wells have also integrated the very powerful, and highly controversial, Provocative Therapy with the continual tapping to produce amazing results. It is important to note that Provocative Energy Therapy, PET, is not as simple as EFT and some very specific guidelines must be followed as this kind of therapy could prove quite traumatic if conducted by somebody unfamiliar with the subtleties of this revolutionary technique.

Ultimately it is up to the individual to experiment with the different variations of EFT that are emerging and decide for themselves which one they find works best for them.

The most important thing is that tapping is one of the most effective and efficient forms of therapy ever discovered that has the ability to treat living creatures (animals as well) holistically, by treating them on all levels: physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
