Number 1: Not building trust and credibility. This is one of the biggest mistakes people make in email marketing. Hitting your list with offer after offer will turn anyone away. Your messages will either get deleted or your unsubscribe rate will soar.

What you need to do is provide valuable content. This will do two very powerful things: 1- You will begin to be seen as an expert in your field. 2- Your list assume that all your products and services have the same value and quality as the content you provide. They will think that the content is just the tip of the iceberg (which it should be).

Number 2: Confusing, indirect offers. After providing a good amount of content, your list should be ready to buy. When you make an offer to your list, make it obvious. If you include a link at the bottom of the email and assume your readers will click on it without any form of persuasion and call to action, you are dead wrong. Include your best sales copy in your messages, be clear and concise, and include a strong call to action.

Number 3: Long messages. One of the biggest mistakes in email marketing is sending messages that are way too long. People have a short attention span- especially on the internet. When you send out a message, make it clear, distilled and completely fluff-free. Short, value packed messages will win any list over. Long, intimidating messages get deleted. Remember that!

Number 4: Not writing like you talk. Write a message as if you were sitting down with someone and talking to them. Meaning, use contractions, fraction sentences. Chances are, if your message was a college paper you wouldn't get an A. That's ok. You don't need to be grammatically correct. You need to be personal. Read your message out loud, and you'll hear the spots that aren't fluid and natural sounding.

Number 5: Sending offers too often or not enough. Have you ever signed up for a list and were bombarded with emails? Nothing is a bigger turn off than getting way too many emails from someone. Be sure to not email your list too often. Every day is too much in my opinion. A couple times a week is perfect. This way, your readers will have enough time to read your email and get excited for the next one.
