Erythema annulare centrifugum (EAC) is classified as one of the figurate or gyrate erythemas. A large number of other descriptive terms have been used to classify these types of lesions, some of which include annular erythema. Hypotheses about the mechanism of annularity focus on the interaction between mediators of inflammation and ground substance as foreign antigens diffuse through the skin. EAC is considered to include all the gyrate erythemas, except for erythema marginatum rheumaticum, erythema chronicum migrans, and erythema gyratum repens. Eruptions may occur at any time throughout life, from infancy to old age. EAC has been reported in patients from infancy to the ninth decade of life.



Lesions most often appear on the thighs and legs, but may occur on the face, trunk and arms. EAC may precede malignancy by 2 years or more. It has been noted that erythema annulare centrifugum is sometimes linked to underlying diseases and conditions. Cause of erythema annulare centrifugum bacterial, fungal and viral infections such as tuberculosis, sinusitis, candidiasis or tinea , drugs including chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, oestrogen, penicillin and amitriptyline ,cancer ,food, most often blue cheese or tomatoes ,recurrent or chronic appendicitis ,cholestatic liver disease (blocked bile system) and grave's disease. EAC cleared in the terminal stage of the disease.

Erythema annulare centrifugum usually clears up by itself. Topical corticosteroids may be helpful in reducing redness, swelling and itchiness. Systemic or injection steroid therapy is effective treatment. Most cases require no treatment, however topical corticosteroids may be helpful in reducing redness, swelling and itchiness.
