Just because it is light out does not mean burglars will not come.

If you are away from your home, you still want to be able to protect your family's belongings. Set timers for various lights spread throughout the house to come on. This will give an impression that you are home. As for the outside lights, it is safe to have lights all the way up your driveway. And if you really want to be safe, install hidden cameras that are connected to a security system of some sort.

It is unfortunate that we live in a world that requires us to protect ourselves in every circumstance. There seems to be no way around it other than preparing for the worst to remain safe.
