It is so exciting when you bring home a new baby. Family and friends come over to see the new member of the family. When friends and family arrive to see the new little one they bring in gifts and forget all about the older sibling. Everybody is making such a fuss over the new little one that they forget about the other child. It can take an emotional toll on most children no matter what their age is. They have been the baby for so long they never thought about having to share mom and dad with anyone else.
Older siblings don't understand why everyone is paying the new baby so much attention and not even noticing them. Most kids will act out in situations like this to get attention from family and friends. If parents and other family members would let the older child get involved they would feel wanted and noticed and have no need for acting out. Bringing a gift for them would also help out with some of the emotional issues. If they had their mind on a new toy then they would not even think about acting out.
Letting older siblings bring mom and dad diapers, wipes, ointment, clothes or anything for the baby. It makes the older child feel important like they are needed. Allowing them to get involved with the new baby will make the older child love and grow closer to the baby. Never leave the two of them alone. Do let the older sibling make simple decisions for the baby. Such as what shirt to wear, what bottle to use or what bath towel to use. There are so many decisions that they can make in the babies life without even affecting the baby. It just helps the older child feel more involved with the new baby. It also makes the older child feel more grown up because mom and dad are trusting them to make decisions for the new baby. Although these things may seem so minor to you and I. They are a very big deal to a small child. All of these things are positive points when raising a child and a new baby. These points can make bringing in a new baby a wonderful transition for the whole family.
Family With New Baby
The arrival of a new addition to the family elicits many reactions from the family. This is particularly true when the new baby is not the first child or grandchild or niece/nephew. Siblings can either become jealous or excited; parents can either become nervous or happy; grandparents and aunts/uncles can feel the same way, too.
It is thus important that during the baby shower, the family becomes part of the process. You can try giving baby shower gifts for family that will please the parents and the siblings.
Gifts for the Siblings
There can be feelings of jealousy and insecurity by older siblings, even before the birth of the baby. If they are invited to the baby shower, give them gifts especially intended for them; hopefully, these can help them feel more secure and more loved.
You can buy coordinated gifts for the siblings. Match their gifts with the mother or the baby, which usually means you have to buy a pair of two items in different sizes or two items with the same themes.
For example, you can buy matching bracelets for the mother and the daughter; or matching backpacks for the father and son, with the father's backpack serving as a diaper bag, too. You can also try giving baby shower gifts for family that reflect their joyous moments, like a photo collage or a picture family tree.
There are also baby shower gifts for family that the siblings can share. You can give plush toys like tool sets, which both baby and older sibling can enjoy. You can present stuffed toys that the big brother or the big sister can share with the baby. Just make sure to educate them about safety precautions regarding the toy.
However, if you want the older sibling to have a gift intended for his own use, there are also baby shower gifts for family that come in sets. Usually, the boys' gifts will have safari themes while the girls' gifts will center on feminine motifs like butterflies. Usually, these sets come in a combination of picture frames, flip notes, backpacks, coin purses, toys, and other kiddy goodies.
Gifts for the Parents
Again, you can coordinate the parents' gifts with the baby gifts. Usually, the expectant mother will get spa and salon gift certificates, luxurious bath accessories, plush grooming kits, and other stuff she will need after delivery.
For the expectant father, just give him almost the same gifts but with a manly touch. Often, humor helps in giving baby shower gifts to the father.
If you still have the money, you can buy gifts for the grandparents, too! Or you can pool your resources with the other guests so that nobody gets left out. Even a simple gift will warm the hearts of the grandparents.
There are many ideas about baby shower gifts for family. If you use your imagination and empathize with the members of the family, you can come up with the most marvelous gifts for each member of the family. And you do not even have to spend a fortune!
