Though it is the state with the smallest population, Wyoming's cellular phone use is well in line with that of the rest of the country. With 7 different carriers to ensure the maximum amount of service, in a reliable network, Wyoming's population has openly taken part in cellular phone technology's spread, and its use continues to grow.
In the year 2001, Wyoming's population was just slightly less than the 500,000 person mark, there were already 173,939 people subscribing to one cellular phone service or another. Later, by the year 2006, when the population had grown by 4.3 percent to 515,004, the number of cellular phone subscribers also grew, but by a substantially larger percentage. Now, there were 376,753 people from the state subscribing to a cell phone service. This statistic reveals that by 2006, seventy three percent of the state's population was subscribing for mobile phone coverage.
It is expected that this number will still continue to grow at a greater rate of growth than the state's population itself. The next boom is anticipated in response to the new cell phones that have been created specifically with children in mind. These phones are created with fun designs and popular themes and characters, and give parents full control over the use of the phones. Not only do the parents decide what numbers can be called from the phones, many of the phones also have close monitoring tools so that the parent can access all numbers called, all numbers who called the child, and any text messaging (in or out) within the child's phone. GPS tracking is also a desirable feature.
With this whole new market opening up to cell phone companies, there will soon be another explosion in the number of subscribers within the state of Wyoming.
That being said, Wyoming has yet to develop a state-wide cell phone directory that will allow for cell phone number searches. The alternative is a premium online service called which allows searchers to gain information regarding cell phones as they would with a directory for landlines online. A few seconds is all that is required to discover a great deal of useful information for people needed a phonebook-like service.
