Finding Your Niche In Promotional Products

You’ve finally decided to give it a go. You have always been a particularly arts and crafts-inclined person and you think that rather than maintaining your hobby as it is, it would also be a good idea to profit from it. Well, lucky for you, there are others who have gone on this path – therefore, there would be no need for you to feel your way around through everything you need to do. You’re all set to go, and here are some tips so that you can find out how to go about setting up your promotional products business.



1. Identify your strengths. Is this something that you can do manually, or will you be getting supplies from someone else? Plus points for you if you are skilled to make particular products on your own – that would enable you to cut down on cost and leave you a lot of room for creativity.

2. Know your market. Who do you wish to cater to? In today’s entrepreneurial market, there are many avenues you can explore. Promotional products can be offered to virtually everybody – from those who are in need of company giveaway to those who want event souvenirs to those who simply want to purchase knickknacks one by one. Of course, at some point, you may be able to target a much wider market, but setting your sights on a narrower focus helps you define your strategy.

3. Do your research. Granting that you have identified which promotional products you want to explore as well as which market you want to cater to, it will now be another matter entirely of researching what’s already out there.

4. Start canvassing and computing costs. If you are going to be offering competitive rates (and believe me, you will have to), start looking around for where you’ll get supplies. More often than not, you will be getting bargains if you get your materials by the bulk. You might even be able to recycle some items that you already have at your disposal. So long as you’ll still be able to offer good, best-quality products, being creative with your supplies can only work to your advantage.

5. Assess your network. Yes, you will have the World Wide Web at your disposal. However, you cannot expect to start raking in the profits just by putting up a website. Go through your contacts and spread your links. Join social networking sites and get your products out there. Also, do not underestimate the value of old-school, word-of-mouth marketing. Brush up on your customer relations skills. A pleasant entrepreneur with fabulous products will always be ahead of the snooty entrepreneur with equally fabulous products.

6. Reinvent. The beauty of exploring the promotional products business is that if you are observant enough, you will be able to tap into the market and see what works and what doesn’t. Observe your sales, as well. If a particular product is doing well, then, by all means, make several more versions of it to produce a good variety. Cater to everybody’s tastes, even if they do not necessarily agree with your own.

Be flexible when planning out your promotional products business plan. Learn to evolve with the market and you won’t be left behind.
