Tip #1. The biggest thing you can do to protect your carpeting is to vacuum it often. Frequent vacuuming removes soil that can damage and wear your carpet. Vacuum at least once a week. Twice a week is better.



Tip #2. Use spotters designed for carpet. Read the label on the spotter you are using and make sure that it says safe for stain resistant carpet. This means that it is not too strong for the carpeting. Never play chemist either. Do not use chemicals you have laying around your home. If it is not designed for carpet it can probably damage it.

Tip #3. Stay on top of the spots. Do not let spots build up. Keep a bottle of spotter handy so that you can deal with them as they occur. If you let them build up it can become overwhelming and the greatest chance of removing them is when hey are still fresh.

Tip #4. Do not scrub your carpet. This will wear the carpet fibers leaving a spot that will always be noticeable. Instead you should dab the spot working from the outside towards the inside.

Tip #5. Rearrange your furniture often. Move your furniture around every six months. This will change the flow of traffic so that the same area of carpet is not constantly exposed to traffic. This can almost double the life of a high traffic room.

These are very simple things that you can do to save your homes carpeting. They are easy to do but they have a great impact on extending the life of your carpets.
