Some of the most spectacular fly fishing in the United States can be found in the state of Colorado. In fact, when many people think of fly fishing, they automatically think of Colorado FLy Fishing before anyplace else. It is true that Colorado has some amazing fly fishing places that have some trophy-sized fish in them.



The Frying Pan River is well-known as one of the best fly fishing rivers in the entire state. This is a beautiful river with easy access. Located just outside of Aspen, the Frying Pan is host to a variety of trout including rainbow, brown and cutthroat. There are year-round hatches making fly fishing in any season possible for the avid fisherman.

Of course, there are many wonderful places in Colorado, another in the same Aspen region known as the Roaring Fork. What makes this particular area so different is that the river offers calm, peaceful areas as well as large, heavier flowing waters. This river is known for having incredible wild trout and to reach it, the Rio Grande Trail leads right down to the water's edge.

At the Roaring Fork, people can also fish all year long like they can at the Frying Pan River location. This river has some of the finest rainbow trout around although wild brook is also an occasional treat.

Many years ago, pioneers traveling in areas of the West would use the North Platte River to their advantage. This river was a place where buffalo would go to drink, allowing Indians the chance to hunt, along with fish, which is one of the ways in which Colorado fly fishing became known. In this part of Northwestern Colorado, experts actually rate the river as being excellent for gold metal. However, the trout fished in the North Platte River and its mesmerizing scenery is what most people enjoy most.

Outside of the Vail area is the Colorado River, flowing down through the majestic Rocky Mountain National Park. This particular river is huge, being quite wide and deep but it also has smooth flowing water. The shores are lined with towering cottonwood trees, making this an ideal place for the trout to hide, especially brown trout. Therefore, for anyone who wants great Colorado fly fishing, the Colorado River is one of the best places to visit.

The Arkansas River is located in the southwestern portion of the state and provides some great trout fishing for anglers. Mid-winter is a great time to fish the Arkansas for trout as is the spring time. Around Mother's Day every year, many fishermen descend on the Arkansas for the annual caddis hatch which is huge. Brown trout feed on caddis and they come "out of the woodwork" for this hatch.

Throughout the state of Colorado are many incredible fishing spots with these being just a few. The fishing is the best in the country, not to mention the breathtaking countryside.
