For starters, quarterback David Carr has been replaced by Matt Schaub. Schaub has minimal experience but he is 6'5 with a big arm. After many teams showing interest over the years he will finally have a chance to start. Many are unsure with what he will bring to the field. In three years Schaub has only attempted 161 passes. Schaub was a gamble, but it might just pay off for the Houston Texans.



In the running back position, there is Ahman Green. Green is getting up there is age, especially for a running back, and his 2003 season of 1883 yards and 15 touchdowns is in the past. But if Green fully comes back fro his back injury that sidelined for almost all of 2005 he could still be very productive. Houston has also signed Ron Dayne to back Green up.

Some people are expecting a big year from is wide receiver Andre Johnson. Houston spent their number three overall pick on Johnson a few years ago with hopes for a superstar to emerge. And Andre Johnson does have all the makings of a superstar - he works very hard on his game in the off season, he is big and fast and physical while the ball is in the air. He also has some of the best hands in the league. Johnson will face quite a bit of double coverage with no one on the other side, but again, do not be surprised if this is a huge year for Andre Johnson.

Tight end Owen Daniels, who was a converted H-back from Wisconsin , stepped in as a rookie last year and he caught 34 passes and five touch downs. Owens will need to improve his blocking though, but he certainly gives Schaub another pass catcher while he is on the field.

As far as the defense, The Houston Texans have shaken things up a bit in the off season in hopes for a better 2007 season.

Okoye, a 19 year old Louisville graduate, has come in to try to help a defense that normally doesn't touch the opposing teams quarterback. On one hand it makes sense that Houston brought Okoye in because after passing on Reggie Bush and Vince Young a year ago in favor of Williams it's obvious how much their front office and coaching staff value the defensive line and based on their depth chart situation inside one can see why they'd be interested in Okoye. Okoye is a prospect that the NFL Draft has never seen and after playing for the Cardinals as a 16 year old true freshman, he will only be 20 years old as an NFL rookie in next season. The sky is the limit for him both physically and mentally as Okoye has shown he is a mature young man ready for his moment.

Last year Jason Babin, with his 5.0 sacks, led the team and they finished with just 28 sacks in 16 games. Also, Mario Williams has a year under his belt and must provide a strong presence as an outside rusher. Overall, the Houston defense should be improved from last year, but they still have a lot of room for improvement.
