Smoking claims more lives the world over than combat violence, there are more cases of lung cancer caused by smoking reported every year, than there are cases of cancer the world over. In addition to just lung cancer, there are other cancerous diseases that are attributed to lung cancer. Not only do smokers endangering there own lives, smokers also endanger the lives of people who are in there close proximity.



SHS or SS (secondary smoke) is the documented cause of several ailments like asthma, skin allergies. This is just a list of the additional side effects that secondary smoke has, all the primary diseases smokers expose themselves to, apply to secondary smokers. Smoking releases a toxic concoction of poisonous gases. Toxic gases that actually deplete the absorption capacity of the lungs and slowly reduce the bloods oxygen carrying capacity. A detailed study of the numerous chemicals that compose cigarette smoke has revealed that a person chances of dying due to air pollution are nearly minimal compared to the effects of secondary smoke.

Younger children are especially susceptible to secondary smoke, there bodies have not yet fully adjusted to the surroundings and people who smoke at home should think twice before lighting that cigarette with children presents. Recent studies suggest that children exposed to secondary smoke are likely to develop breathing problems like asthma and shortness of breath. Almost all European governments have banned smoking in public places, a step that some critics believe was long time coming. The reason for the ban is simple, one person's complete disregard for his own health should not mean he has the right to endanger other people.

To quit smoking, a person needs to be adequately motivated and fully aware of the ills of smoking. There is a common attitude most smokers face, the feeling of infallibility. Since most smokers have been abusing cigarettes for years, they tend to think that they are no longer susceptible to the ill effects of smoking. Whereas the contrary is true, the longer one smokes the more prone he is to diseases. Such individual's are best reminded of the adverse effect smoking has on people around them, who do not smoke.

All the studies centred around secondary smoke have been devised for one reason, to make people the world over aware that smoking not only affects the smoker but people who inhale the smoke. Common sense must prevail in such a situation, there is no greater motivation to quit smoking
