Full length mirrors and large wall mirrors are in some cases considered essential because they can do a job that a small mirror can't. For instance, in the bedroom, having a large mirror is an essential part of the morning routine, being able to see your complete look is important. But that's not all larger mirrors can do for you and your home. They can be used in a variety of ways, such as to create the illusion of additional space, they can improve lighting in a darker room, provide emphasis to three dimensional objects, and simply add a decorative flare to the design of your space.

Selecting the Right Mirror:

When working with a very small space, it is important to consider the size of the mirror. Using a very large mirror in such a place may cause the area to appear cramped, so go with a medium size mirror to maximize space, while creating the illusion of new angles. Placing a mirror in a space that is quite large will do just the opposite; you want your mirror to be an aesthetic addition to the room, this way it will just disapear. Mirrors are also great for emphasizing three dimensional objects in the room. Draw the eye to the hidden side by simply placing the mirror behind the object or at the side in a way that the mirror will capture the hidden side for the viewer.

For adding space, lighting, or accenting an object, position the mirror against a wall and away from heavy traffic. For this type of use, you want your new mirror to blend into the design of the whole space, rather than becoming an overwhelming focal point so that it can properly do its job.

Maintenance & Installation:

Mirror glass will require some cleaning from time to time. If you are eco conscious, you can use newspaper and vinegar. Otherwise, newspaper and any standard glass cleanser will do fine. When cleaning the frame, try a damp soft cloth, such as micro fiber and warm water to wipe down the surface.

When you are ready to install your new mirror, place the mirror in the spot you are considering or if you are hanging it high on the wall, have someone hold the mirror up for you; step back a bit and make sure the spot is right, be sure that you can see everything you want to in the mirror. Simply note the hanging spot on the wall with a pencil then follow the installation instructions that came with your mirror. Match up the mirror's top edge with the mark on the wall. Use a level to keep it straight.

Shopping for and installing full length large wall mirrors is a simple and fun process for any home decor DIY personality. With careful planning, and sticking to a budget, you will soon be enjoying the aesthetic appeal as well as the practical function of a brand new mirror.
