Gastric Bypass Surgery Price

    View:
Prices for minimally invasive restrictive surgery, such as gastric banding, will start at around about $15,000 while mixed surgeries, such as a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass or biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch, will come in at about $25,000. In both cases these figures will cover the costs of surgery and hospitalization in a standard medical facility and assume that there are no complications. If you decide to engage the services of a world renown surgical team in a leading facility the costs could of course be considerably higher.

Now, at this point, we run into the first problem and that is that a substantial number of weight loss surgeries will run into some form of complication which requires additional treatment and possibly further hospitalization. Such complications need not necessarily be major or serious but will, nonetheless, increase the cost of undergoing surgery. In the case of minor complications which do not require further hospitalization statistics show that the average additional costs are $11,000. Where further hospitalization is required for more serious complications this figure rises to around $40,000. These of course are average figures and so reflect some lucky patients whose costs will rise by only $2,000 or $3,000 and less fortunate patients whose additional costs will top $100,000.

But now we run into the second problem. It is easy to forget that gastric bypass surgery will not only result in weight loss but will also have a profound psychological effect on patients and lead to a dramatic change in lifestyle. This change in the way in which a patient leads his or her life will also often mean a considerable change in the cost of living.

Apart from the obvious expenses of a new wardrobe as the weight literally falls off, many patients often feel the need to redecorate and change the furniture, buy a new car and take up an activity such as golf. All of which can add up to a tidy sum. Then of course comes the question of additional surgery.

Unfortunately for many patients as the weight fall off the skin doesn't adjust to fit and, although they are extremely happy to have regained their health, energy and vitality, they are not so happy with the way they look and feel uncomfortable facing the world with their new body. This often results in a desire for cosmetic surgery and this is certainly not cheap.

The list of course goes on but you probably have the picture by now. It's a bit like spending a day at a theme park. The gastric bypass surgery price is simply the entrance fee and, once you're in the park, how much you spend is very much up to you. And, just like any day out in an amusement park, you can bet your bottom dollar that it's going to be expensive.
Gastric Bypass Surgery Price
Most people know that sticker prices for big ticket items can be misleading. There are often hidden fees, maintenance costs, warranties, and other expenses that need to be taken into consideration. So what would make cosmetic surgery any different? It requires not only a large financial investment, but a physical one as well.

This is especially true when you choose to undergo breast augmentation. A foreign element is being inserted into your body, which means it's important to keep tab on how your body is reacting.

Before you even undergo surgery, you might want to consider purchasing a warrantee. It might seem silly, but one of the most common risks associated with breast enhancement surgery is implant rupture. Fortunately, most implant manufacturers offer a free lifetime warranty that covers replacement of the implant in instances of leaks. Some will even cover a limited surgical fee. There are also extensions of these programs available. If you pay a bit more, you can have coverage not only in case of leaks, but if you experience rippling or capsular contraction as well. And because it is recommended that breast implants should be replaced every 10 to 20 years under optimal conditions, it might be worth the extra money later on in the future. After all, breast implants are usually a lifetime investment.

Expect some hefty fees immediately post-op, too. You'll be out of work for at least two weeks, in some cases longer. You'll also be sent home with a prescription for some medication to purchase. You will have to make at least one, if not two to three trips back to visit your surgeon to ensure that everything is going smoothly. Remember to factor in travel costs along with your basic necessities and medication. The month after breast enhancement surgery will take a big bite out of your wallet.

Another cost to factor into the price tag is regular mammograms.

Normally, women with implants are not required to undergo any more mammograms than a woman with natural breasts; however, with the reintroduction of silicone implants in the American market, the FDA mandates that women with these kinds of implants must undergo regular MRI scans, which can be quite expensive, running anywhere from a few hundred to thousands of dollars. And although you may not want to think about it, complications can cost you big time. Infections, which can range from mild to severe, will need immediate treatment and your body will remain susceptible to them for up to two to three years following surgery. A common problem experienced after breast enhancement surgery is capsular contraction, which will require a revision if not complete removal of the implants. Rippling and shifting are also common reasons that send women back to the operating room. These operations could end up doubling or even tripling the original price of your breast enhancement surgery.

Be prepared to allow funds for both expected and unexpected costs. Even having to replace your old bras will set you back some cash. Ultimately, the more you're willing and able to invest in the cosmetic procedure and subsequent care, the better your chances of being satisfied with your decision and remaining healthy.
