Schizophrenia is a neurologic problem that is the result of a combination of factors such as excess of dopamine, or the result of a stressful life or even a drug caused illness. Schizophrenia causes symptoms like strange thinking or unusual behavior but the causes of schizophrenia are not yet known. Some specialists believe that a combination of genes called by them schizophrenia genes, are the cause of schizophrenia because they are responsible of weakening the immune system. Other opinions are told, considering that an excess of dopamine may cause schizophrenia too. A stressful life might also be responsible for causing schizophrenic symptoms. Drugs are also considered responsible for worsen up the illness.



Children can develop schizophrenia too. It is unusual for them to catch this disease, but there are some cases that show us it is possible. Specialists can not tell the cause of the illness in those cases either, but researchers got to an answer. They say that a combination of factors such as genetic, chemical and environmental factors is responsible for the starting of this illness.

A proper diagnosis in an early stage of the disease is the main condition to ease schizophrenia symptoms.

In childhood the symptoms are different from the ones of adults and can mean hallucinations (seeing or hearing things), strange behavior, unusual ideas, confusing reality with dreams, paranoia, severe anxiety and fearfulness, problems in making friends, exceeded isolation or lack of personal hygiene.

Children are the ones that are dangerously affected by schizophrenia. Their behavior begins to change in time. For a child that was friendly and willing to make friends, schizophrenia is the illness that is totally going to change him. Schizophrenic symptoms occur and the child begins to live in his world, a world in which he can think about his fears and ideas. Isolation is one of the biggest problems. People who usually get in contact with them are the ones that can notice the chance.

After noticing the strange behavior of their children, parents are responsible to take them to an exam. Children with schizophrenia must be examined by a psychiatrist, preferably a specialist in treating children with schizophrenia. Children with schizophrenia need a special treatment that can only be prescribed by the psychiatrist after a good revision of the case. Not only medicine can help, actually only medicine can not help if family therapy does not exist. Children should also go to specialized programs for them. This combination may be helpful in easing the symptoms but only under the close surveillance of the specialists.
