Get Rid Of Athletes Foot

The fungus tines pedis is actually often contracted in areas that are wet and moist. Gyms, pool sides and locker rooms are some of the places where these fungi hang out. They can survive in wet puddles and adhere to the outer skin layers of the foot that passes by. This is why it is important that you always wear sandals or footwear even on this environment. Walking barefoot can cause so much trouble for you in terms of contracting all kinds of fungi and bacteria.



Athlete's foot will often cause itchiness in the toes particularly in the creases in between the toes. There will also be a lot of redness and scaling in the affected areas. When not treated, the infection can lead to blisters on the skin and yellowed toenails.

Below are some of the things that you can do to prevent your feet from suffering from these really pesky infection.

Dry your feet.

Make sure that your feet is dry before you get into your running shoes. After taking a bath or washing your feet, get a towel and wipe the moisture off. Don't forget to dry the spaces in between those toes.

Air out your shoes

Make it a habit to always air out your rubber shoes after use so that it will be dry inside. This is especially true if you have used it for so long during the day and there is sweat inside.

Wear sandals

When inside locker rooms or when walking by the poolside or anywhere moist, wear sandals. As mentioned above, going barefoot can be a real magnet for all kinds of bacteria and fungi.

Socks is the answer

Wear cotton socks all the time as these help in absorbing much of the sweat and moisture in your feet thereby preventing the growth of the fungi. Don't use those socks again! Change them often. Throw them into the laundry bin after use. A fresh pair of socks can help in preventing athlete's foot from occurring.

Use talc powder

Applying talc powder on your feet after every shower will help dry out the feet. It will also prevent it from sweating too much and becoming an environment that the fungi will love.

Athlete's foot is a fungal infection caused by the fungus tinea pedis, which often grows in areas that are moist and warm. And what can be warmer and more moist than your feet especially when inside those rubber shoes?

Athlete's foot is characterized by itching on the feet often in between the toes. People who suffer from this condition will often find redness and tenderness in the affected areas. The skin may also crack not only from scratching but also because of the fungal infection. When not treated, the areas may develop into blisters and the toenails may become yellowed and thick.

Athlete's foot, despite the name, does not only affect sports people. In fact, it is one of the most common foot problems, affecting all kinds of people with different professions. Even office workers can be affected by this problem.

Tinea pedis can often be founding moist places such as poolsides or shower rooms in gyms and spa houses. The fungus can survive for some time in puddles of water, which may be stepped on by people. When these happen, the fungus will adhere to the skin of the foot and voila, you have the start of an athlete's foot.

Of course, you will not be immediately developing the infection. However, if you are not hygienic and your feet are always wet and moist, then there is a great possibility that athlete's foot will develop. You must remember that the fungi that cause the problem loves wet places. So keep those feet dry.

Do not go barefoot. When inside public shower rooms and locker rooms, make sure that you are wearing sandals to protect your feet. Going barefoot will only make your feet vulnerable to fungus that may be lounging in the surrounding areas. Fungi just love warm and wet floors so make sure that you do not give them the opportunity to latch on to your feet when you step on them.

Wear socks and change them often. A good pair of cotton socks can help you a lot in getting rid of and avoiding fungus. Socks absorb the moisture of your feet especially when inside a tight rubber shoes. Make sure though that you change them often. Dirty socks can become a home for fungus so be very careful.
