Ginkgo Biloba For Tinnitus

    View:
There are multiple views on the application of ginkgo for tinnitus, none conclusive though. During the 80's & 90's many researches were conducted but hampered by traditional methods no result gave much outcome. A recent highly structured study reported no benefit. We would require more well planned study to come to a final conclusion.

Ginkgo Biloba has a complex pharmacological profile. The prime elements are bilobalides & ginkgolides, together terpenoids and form flavonoids range. Some the actions that we get from Ginkgo Biloba are metabolic, radical-scavenging, anti-ischemic, anti-hypoxic and anti-edema actions.

Also it ups the troubled microcirculatory blood flow up giving impetus to blood fluidity. When present it tinnitus the importance of the actions is not known fully yet. The main reason behind tinnitus could be because there might a drop in supply of blood to inner ear area. Thus if we were to put imagination to use the fore told pharmacological chain of action, Ginkgo Biloba might lead to clinical efficacy for this purpose.

For study, a 10 member French ENT expert team tested 103 tinnitus patients. Those patients who had under gone surgery or had infection or even suffered disease of ear were excluded. Those patients that were chosen were given for the next three months a Ginkgo Biloba extract of 4 ml every day.

Therapeutic achievement was standardized rigidly of tinnitus symptoms. In the end results should that faster recovery of symptoms to group experienced greater using Ginkgo Biloba.

Morgenstern and Bierman printed a study that had 99 patients suffering chronic tinnitus. In the first stage the entire patients were treated for the next 2 weeks by giving 3x1 placebo pills every day. Thereafter for 12 weeks by random selection one group was taken under placebo and the other to take active supplements of 3x40 mg Ginkgo Biloba extract.

The eudiometry showed volume of tinnitus in badly pretentious ear was the most important conclusion. When a comparative sheet was made the results made clear that the volume of sound was far less in the group that was actively treatment as those under placebo.

Though the dosages and methods applied were similar the studies yielded varied results.

Conclusions were taken from patients for their choice of treatment or severity of tinnitus, the volume of tinnitus was done through audiometer and evaluation via a specialist.

4 different Ginkgo Boiloba extracts were taken for use, like pills, injections or drops and every day dosage dissimilar in every trial. As per studies the benchmark was set for inclusion but it was made sure that all the trails had patients had at some point in time reported to have persistent or chronic tinnitus. In the process of trials the treatment time varied.

The end result had no effects from the variations that were there in dosages. Ginkgo Biloba extract has had a positive influence on Tinnitus if not a complete claming and curing effect.
Ginkgo Biloba For Tinnitus
The ginkgo biloba tree has been around for more than 200 million years. And it has been used for all sorts of health issues in China beginning 5000 years ago. By the 1600's, ginkgo biloba was thought to have died out but a German botanist found that in the pagoda gardens cared for by the Buddhist monks in China, it was still very much alive. At present, the plant can be found all over the world including Europe where it is used a great deal for its various healing properties.

If a person takes certain medications in combination with ginkgo biloba, the affects of could be either positive or negative. Therefore it is important to proceed with caution and consult a doctor to avoid ginkgo drug interaction issues. Ginkgo biloba drug interactions may positively affect a person when combined with cyclosporine drugs. This interaction guards the cell membrane from damage. A drug like papaverine, that is used to cure erectile dysfunctions, will also benefit from the ginkgo drug interaction. It improves the success rate of the drug because the ginkgo biloba has similar properties. Another possible positive affect of the combination of drugs and ginkgo biloba is the increase in the affects of the anti depressant drug, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI) in patients. This affect may go either way though so one has to be careful.

There are other drugs that work badly with ginkgo biloba. In these rare instances, you must be careful and follow your doctor's advice. One such area is the drug interaction with ginkgo biloba that may decrease the affect of drugs such as carbamazepine or valproic acid. These drugs are anticonvulsants taken by patients to help with seizures.

Ginkgo drug interactions have an impact on anyone who is using anti-coagulant medications. Ginkgo has blood thinning or anticoagulant properties. If you are taking drugs such as clopidogrel, heparin, ticlopidine, warfarin or dipyridamole you should avoid ginkgo biloba supplements.

People who are suffering with high blood pressure could be affected by the ginkgo biloba and drug interaction especially if they are using thiazide during treatment. Then there is trazodone, another antidepressant, in this instance, the drug and ginkgo biloba interaction may cause a coma. If you take only recommended amounts of ginkgo biloba and avoid the plant extract when there could be a negative interaction with other drugs, you should be fine.

If you have any concerns or questions about the safety of taking ginkgo biloba supplements while you are taking other medication, then you should discuss the issue with your physician who will be able to advise you based on your particular medical situation.
